VIDEO: Royal Shakespeare Company Releases SONNETS IN SOLITUDE

The Royal Shakespeare Company today released Sonnets in Solitude, a selection of Shakespeare's sonnets self-recorded by RSC actors while in lockdown. Many of the actors were working with the RSC at the time of the theatre's temporary closure on 17 March and have been unable to perform or rehearse since.

The Orange Tree Theatre presents Mike Noble (The Almighty Sometimes, Royal Exchange; Road, Royal Court; Christopher in The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time in the West End) and Charlotte Randle (Yerma, Young Vic/New York; Medea, Almeida) in the world premiere of Rose Lewenstein's new play Cougar, a co-production with English Touring Theatre, which explores the impact of climate change and consumerism.

Cougar is a new play by Rose Lewenstein which is essentially a series of 80 snapshots into the lifespan of a dysfunctional relationship between younger ex-barman John and older, highly successful executive Leila set in the confines of a number of anonymous hotel rooms around the world.

'The Diana Tapes' produced by What Will the Neighbors Say? and Stockwell Playhouse opened to a full house on June 26th in London, following an Off-Broadway run at HERE Arts Center last month. Andrew Morton, the main character of the play, was in attendance along with News Night anchor Kirsty Wark and West End actor Charlotte Randle among others.

It's ironic that this first production of The Ustinov Studio's German season should be concerned with that most British of subjects- class. British theatre has a rich history of playwrights poking our sensitivities about guilt, entitlement and shame. Marius von Mayenburg's Plastic does it with wit, ingenuity…and a mud-slinging machine (no, that's not a metaphor).

Australian theatre's 'enfant terrible' Simon Stone, whose 2014 version of Ibsen's The Wild Duck at the Barbican memorably starred a live duck, has returned to take on Lorca's 1934 'tragic poem'. If some of the elemental lyricism has been lost in this updating, which trades rural Spain for contemporary London, it's a small price to pay for a raw, searing work that builds to a shattering climax.
