CSO Music Director Rossen Milanov and the musicians of the Columbus Symphony feature guest cellist Pablo Ferrández in a performance of Elgar's Cello Concerto, showcasing the intimate voice of the cello in one of its most glorious and moving embodiments. The program will also include the sparkling orchestration of Torres' Tres Pinturas Velazqueñas, an aural reflection of three of the most famous paintings by Diego Velázquez, and conclude with Brahms' rarely performed masterwork, Symphony No. 3.

At Sunday's All Mozart concert, the Princeton Symphony Orchestra (PSO) saluted ten years with Maestro Rossen Milanov at the helm by announcing the public phase of The Next 10! - a campaign celebrating Milanov's 10th anniversary while building a dynamic future for the orchestra. Funds raised through the campaign will support the PSO's current and future initiatives as it continues to move forward as an integral, innovative presence on Princeton's arts scene.

Having attracted more than 150,000 students from nearly every country in the world since its launch in 2013, pianist Jonathan Biss's free online course Exploring Beethoven's Piano Sonatas continues its six-part survey of these 32 landmark works via online learning platform Coursera, with the next set of lectures—Part 5—scheduled to appear on Monday, September 30. Two lectures are devoted to the monumental “Hammerklavier” Sonata—No. 29 in B-flat major, Op. 106—while another two focus on Piano Sonatas No. 13 in E-flat major, Op. 27, No. 1 (“Quasi una fantasia”) and No. 16 in G major, Op. 31, No. 1, respectively. With the sixth and final course module to be released on January 6, Mr. Biss will have completed his journey through the complete Beethoven piano sonatas.

(Pittsburgh Post-Gazette), Resonance Works' landmark seventh season draws a deep focus on the cultural reawakening and evolution that is reshaping not only the classical music universe but our global-political culture at large.  Pursuant to its stated mission to explore a?oethemes that resonate with the current climatea?? at least half of the works presented in this season's programs are composed by women (a tip of the hat to the ratification of the 19th amendment, which celebrates its 100th anniversary in 2020) and shall urgently explore themes of multiculturalism and the ongoing evolution of gender-based power dynamics.

The Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra (CSO) and Music Director Louis Langrée announce the release of the Orchestra's latest recording, Transatlantic. The album showcasing American composer George Gershwin's take on bustling Paris, French composer Edgar Varèse's take on New York's soundscape, and Igor Stravinsky composing the same work across two continents became available on Friday, August 30 for streaming and purchase digitally. A two-compact disc physical release of Transatlantic will be available September 13, 2019. This album includes the highly anticipated world premiere recording of the critical edition of George Gershwin's An American in Paris. The CSO also gave the world premiere performance of this new edition at La Seine Musicale in Paris in 2017.

Five guest soloists and the Columbus Symphony Chorus join CSO Music Director Rossen Milanov and the musicians of the Columbus Symphony for The American Festival, performing Paul Moravec and Mark Campbell's monumental oratorio Sanctuary Road based on the writings of William Still, a conductor on the Underground Railroad who helped almost 800 slaves escape to freedom. The program also includes a concert version of Gershwin's American classic, Porgy and Bess.

Collaborative Arts Institute of Chicago's 19/20 season will open with the 8th annual Collaborative Works Festival, held in venues around Chicago September 5, 7 and 8, 2019. On the eve of the Mostly Mozart Festival Orchestra's (MMFO) opening performances at the 2019 Mostly Mozart Festival, Ehrenkranz Artistic Director Jane Moss has announced that Lincoln Center has extended the contract of Renee and Robert Belfer Music Director Louis Langree through the summer of 2023. Langree has held the position since 2003, fostering the Festival Orchestra's profile as an established ensemble and steadfast presence on the Lincoln Center campus, furthering its scope of repertoire beyond music of the classical era, and heightening its reputation as one of America's premier chamber orchestras. Langree made his Mostly Mozart Festival debut in 1998 and began his tenure as music director in 2003. 2023 will be his twenty-first season in the role. American Express is the lead sponsor of the Mostly Mozart Festival.
