Repertory Theater of St. Louis Continues Ignite! Festival of New Plays, Now thru 3/23

The Repertory Theatre of St. Louis (The Rep) continues the Ignite! Festival of New Plays. Taking place this month, the festival will include commissions of nationally recognized playwrights, culminating with three public readings including Soups, Stews, and Casseroles by Rebecca Gilman and directed by Seth Gordon; Tamarack House by Michael Dowling and directed by Anders Cato; and Love in the Time of Cholera by Caridad Svich (based on the novel by Gabriel Garcia Marquez) and directed by Jose Zayas. The festival productions will take place in the Sally S. Levy Opera Center, located at 210 Hazel Avenue, directly behind the Loretto-Hilton Center.
Stages Rep to Present DOLLHOUSE Regional Premiere, 4/3-28

Eva Laporte directs the regional premiere of Rebecca Gilman's Dollhouse, a 2004 Goodman-commission adapted from Ibsen's A Doll's House. Set at the cusp of the economic downturn of the past decade, Gilman's Dollhouse explores the economy of a relationship in America. The play is particularly poignant in the after-math of the mortgage crisis and the continuing economic struggles in America.

Mixed Blood Theatre's IN THE TIME OF THE BUTTERFLIES Runs 4/5-27

This tale of courage and sisterhood is inspired by the true story of the Dominican Republic's Mirabal siblings whose underground resistance proved that despots are not invincible. IN THE TIME OF THE BUTTERFLIES, on stage April 5-27 at Mixed Blood Theatre, will be performed in Spanish and English (with translated supertitles in both languages). This bilingual world premiere of Julia Alavarez's 1994 New York Times best-selling historical fiction is written by Caridad Svich, author of Mixed Blood's 2010 play based on Isabel Allende's The House of the Spirits.
NYC World Theatre Day Coalition Presents Free Staged Reading 3/27

In honor of World Theatre Day (March 27th) an Around the Globe Chain Play will be presented at the Lark Play Development Center. Starting and ending in NYC, a play will be written as it travels around the world making 16 stops with playwrights from across the globe.

Single Carrot Theatre's sixth season continues with The Tropic of X by Caridad Svich. The show will perform SCT's new temporary space at 1727 N. Charles (the former Everyman Theatre) from February 6th- March 3rd. Preview Performances will be February 6th and 7th at 7:30 pm, opening night is February 8th at 7:30pm.

INTAR Announces 2013 Winter/Spring Season

INTAR (Lou Moreno, Artistic Director/John McCormack, Executive Director) today announced the two plays for its Winter/Spring 2013 season: Lucy Loves Me, written by Migdalia Cruz, directed by Lou Moreno, and Pinkolandia written by Andrea Thome, directed by Jose Zayas. Lucy Loves Me will begin performances Off-Broadway Friday February 22nd continuing through March 24th. Pinkolandia begins performances Friday, May 3rd and will continue through May 26th.
Both Lucy Loves Me and Pinkoldandia are products of INTAR's legendary Maria Irene Fornés Hispanic Playwrights-in-Residence Laboratory (MIF HPRL).

Lark Play Development Center Partners with Mexican Cultural Institute for 7th Annual U.S./Mexico Playwright Exchange

The Lark Play Development Center in collaboration with Mexico's National Fund for Culture and Arts (FONCA) has announced the 2012 U.S./Mexico Playwright Exchange Program. For the seventh year, the Lark will host playwrights from Mexico and pair them with U.S. playwrights, actors, and directors for a ten day cultural exploration which establishes ongoing channels of communication between artists in both countries. This year's exchange is presented in partnership with Mexican Cultural Institute.

The Vassar Drama department will present three performances of Aristophanes' comedic satire about war and sex, Lysistrata, directed by guest artist Ianthe Demos, on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday, December 6, 7, and 8, at 8:00pm, in the Martel Theater of the Vogelstein Center for Drama and Film. Demos, a 2000 Vassar graduate, co-founded the critically acclaimed One Year Lease theater company (OYL) in 2001 and their work has been widely praised by the New York Times and New York magazine among other outlets.
