TV: David Ferguson of FIDDLER ON THE ROOF National Tour

Coming to the Durham Performing Arts Center from January 8th-13th is the current national touring production of Fiddler on the Roof. I recently had the great pleasure of interviewing dance captain (and North Carolina native) David Ferguson.

CUBA FESTIVAL Returns To The Joyce Theater This January

The Joyce Theater Foundation(Linda Shelton, Executive Director) continues its long-standing tradition of showcasing international dance with the return of its Cuba Festival from January 9-20 at The Joyce Theater. Featuring three distinct companies over the course of 10 days, this year's festival celebrates the return of two audience favorites-Malpaso Dance Company andCompañia Irene Rodriguez-and the U.S. debut of LOS HIJOS DEL DIRECTOR. From December 20 to 23, La MaMa Experimental Theater in association the GOH Productions will present the fourth annual production of East Village Dance Project's The Shell-Shocked Nut, an alternative Nutcracker set in the East Village, featuring an intergenerational cast of dancers and musicians.  The piece is recommended for family audiences.

ODC Presents Catherine Galasso In The World Premiere Of ALONE TOGETHER

ODC Theater is proud to present former Resident Artist Catherine Galasso in ALONE TOGETHER, the third installment of her multi-chapter performance series, Of Iron and Diamonds, inspired by Boccaccio's 14th-century collection of tales, The Decameron. A collaboration with San Francisco-based composer Dave Cerf, Alone Together runs December 6 - 8, Thursday to Saturday at 8 p.m. Tickets are $30, and may be purchased online at odc.dance/tickets or by phone at 415-863-9834.

New Yorkers To Dance For Unity In AMASS At City College Center For The Arts

The power and joy of dance and the human collective will be in the spotlight as City College Center for the Arts (CCCA) presents the collaborative dance company MG DanceArts in Amass today, October 26, at 7:30 p.m. Directed by dancer, choreographer and educator Marielis Garcia, Amass presents audiences with an interactive multidisciplinary performance featuring dance, music, sculpture and a good dose of audience participation. Born out of political strife, the piece is designed to help people with vastly different experiences reconnect as human beings through dance. As spectators become the performers, notions of the individual, the group, the past and the future will be tested and explored.

The Joyce Presents James Whiteside in THE TENANT

The Joyce Theater Foundation, Inc. (Linda Shelton, Executive Director) is thrilled to present, in association with its Joyce Theater Productions initiative, the world premiere of The Tenant, a new dance play directed by choreographer Arthur Pita and starring American Ballet Theatre (ABT) principal James Whiteside, with ABT soloist Cassandra Trenary, and Kibrea Carmichael. Based on the 1964 novel of the same name by Roland Topor, The Tenant will be presented at The Joyce Theater, from November 6-11.

Key West Film Festival to Take Place on November 14-18th

Cinema aficionados can discover top independent films, explore LGBTQ themes, learn about virtual reality techniques and roller-skate at the southernmost hockey rink in the continental United States during the annual Key West Film Festival, scheduled Wednesday through Sunday, Nov. 14-18. 

Cathy Weis Projects Announces Fall 2018 Season Of Sundays On Broadway

Cathy Weis Projects announces the fall 2018 season of Sundays on Broadway, an ongoing series of performances, film screenings, readings, and discussions on Sunday evenings at WeisAcres. The fall season is curated by Cathy Weis and guest curators Jon Kinzel, Jennifer Miller, Mina Nishimura, and Vicky Shick. All events begin at 6pm. $10 suggested donation at the door. WeisAcres is located at 537 Broadway, #3 (between Prince and Spring Streets), in Manhattan.

Hudson Valley Dance Festival Announced

Peak Performances to Host the World Premiere of SPINNING

Peak Performances presents the world premiere of Spinning, a collaborative musical work written and composed by Pulitzer Prize winner and MacArthur Fellow Julia Wolfe (Anthracite Fields, 2015), and conceived with "cello goddess" (The New Yorker) Maya Beiser, with multimedia projections by innovative artist Laurie Olinder (May 10-13). Commissioned by Peak Performances and culminating their season of works by women, Spinning considers the essential labor of spinning thread-work once performed by hand by women-paying homage to the human dignity of this "women's work."

Dance Makers Brian Brooks, Beth Gill, And Angie Pittman Sign On To Teach At Usdan Summer Camp For The Arts' New Choreographic Institute

Usdan Summer Camp for the Arts, the nation's preeminent arts summer day camp, today announced its new Choreographic Institute, an innovative new program launching in Summer 2018. Students in the inaugural Choreographic Institute will be taught by some of the most visionary choreographers today including Brian Brooks, Beth Gill, and Angie Pittman. Open via application and geared towards those with a passion for choreography and dance making, the seven-week program will act as an incubator for young dancemakers who want to expand and develop their choreographic voices.
