Bill Hanney's Theatre By The Sea (TBTS) concludes the 2017 summer season with THE PRODUCERS, the Mel Brooks laugh-out-loud spectacle. THE PRODUCERS, runs for a special 4-week engagement starting Wednesday, August 16 and ending Sunday, September 10.

It's not surprising that the 1980 film 9 to 5 was turned into a musical, since it's revenge driven farcical plot is a natural fit, and it's a period piece, so it has that going for it as well. Plus, you have Dolly Parton, whose physical attributes sometimes make one forget how great a songwriter she is, providing material written for the show, and adding pieces plucked from her own recordings. It's a great show for a strong and varied female cast, and STAGES' current production doesn't disappoint, with the lead roles filled by outstanding performers. And, one thing is certain, it's a real crowd-pleaser, generating tons of laughs, and a number of memorable moments.

I've seen several stagings of JOSEPH AND THE AMAZING TECHNICOLOR DREAMCOAT over the years, and I've always enjoyed the Tim Rice (book and lyrics) and Andrew Lloyd Webber (music) show each time. However, STAGES St. Louis has really outdone themselves with their latest production of this exuberant musical. The piece has always lent itself to approaching it with a great deal of imagination and creativity, since it's chock-full of hilarious, anachronistic humor and song, and this production takes full advantage of that fact. This show is a real treat, with strong performances and plenty of fun to go around, and I highly recommend it!

Bill Hanney is pleased to announce the full lineup for the 2017 Season at the historic Theatre By The Sea (TBTS). The four-show subscription season will include BEEHIVE The '60s Musical, THE MUSIC MAN, Disney's BEAUTY AND THE BEAST, and THE PRODUCERS. Tickets are on sale May 6 online at theatrebythesea.com, and May 7 by phone (401-782-8587), and at the Box Office Window (364 Cards Pond Road in Wakefield, RI) which opens at noon for in person sales. Patrons who visit the box office in person on May 7 are encouraged to bring their family to enjoy complimentary light snacks and to explore the beautiful seaside grounds and gardens.

Due to unprecedented advance ticket sales, STAGES St. Louis is thrilled to announce the addition of a special matinee performance to the original Sister Act show schedule. A conscious effort to meet patron demand, this extra show marks the first additional matinee STAGES has put on in its 30 year history. STAGES St. Louis has received five awards from the St. Louis Theater Circle during its fourth-annual awards ceremony this past Monday. The Theater Circle Awards - presented by an organization of local critics - honor the outstanding work by actors, directors, designers and playwrights of St. Louis professional theatre in the preceding year.
