Second Thought Theatre Closes 15th Season With World Premiere of WHAT WE WERE

Second Thought Theatre closes their 2019 season with the world premiere of What We Were by acclaimed local playwright Blake Hackler. This is the third world premiere of Hackler's plays presented by Second Thought, following successful runs in previous seasons of The Necessities and Enemies/People. It also marks the first co-production for the company with another theatre. Directed by STT Artistic Associate Christie Vela, What We Were tells the story of three sisters who suffered a childhood of abuse. Weaving scenes from the past and present, the play explores responsibility, what we do to cope, and the very difficult work of healing. What We Were begins with previews on Wednesday, August 28 and runs through Saturday, September 21. Performances of What We Were will take place at Bryant Hall on the Kalita Humphreys Campus; 3400 Blackburn Avenue before transferring to Circle Theatre in Fort Worth. STT Announces Double Feature By Caryl Churchill

As the third offering in its 2019 season, Second Thought Theatre will present a double feature of the rarely produced Caryl Churchill plays Drunk Enough to Say I love You? and Here We Go. STT Artistic Director Alex Organ directs both plays. Returning to the STT stage as part of the dual-cast ensemble are Brandon Potter (Straight White Men) Jenny Ledel (Revolt. She said. Revolt again., Empathitrax, Grounded), and Blake Hackle. Joining these alum in their STT debuts are local luminaries Kieran Connolly (Dallas Theatre Center Diane and Hal Brierley Acting Company member) and Rhonda Boutte (Kitchen Dog Theater company member). Presenting both plays each evening as a single offering, the Caryl Churchill double feature begins with previews on Wednesday, June 5 and runs through Saturday, June 29. All performances will take place at Bryant Hall on the Kalita Humphreys Campus, 3400 Blackburn Street. Tickets to each performance can be purchased online at secondthoughttheatre.com.

Second Thought Theatre announced today details for this year's Second Thought State of Mind, an event celebrating STT and gathering support for the award-winning theatre company. The fifth annual Second Thought State of Mind invites guests to an evening of fun and fundraising featuring entertainment by Janelle Lutz. Second Thought Announces World Premiere of ENEMIES/PEOPLE by Blake Hackler

Second Thought Theatre's 2018 season continues this June with the world premiere of Enemies/People by Dallas-based playwright and artist Blake Hackler. Making her Second Thought directorial debut is Kara-Lynn Vaeni, a theatre and opera director and educator at Southern Methodist University. Second Thought Artistic Director Alex Organ returns to the STT stage for the first time since The Great God Pan in 2016 to star as Tom Stockmann. Loosely adapted from Henrik Ibsen's An Enemy of the People, the play is "a timely world-premiere about the search for truth in the age of alternative facts." Enemies/People begins with previews on Wednesday, June 13 and runs through Saturday, July 7. All performances of Enemies/People will take place at Bryant Hall on the Kalita Humphreys Campus; 3636 Turtle Creek Blvd. Tickets to Enemies/People can be purchased online at secondthoughttheatre.com.

BWW Review: Festival of New Texas Plays at Austin Playhouse

Austin Playhouse recently produced staged readings of the three winning plays from their Festival of New Texas Plays. EIDOPHUSIKON by Reina Hardy kicked off the festival on Friday, April 27, NUTSHELL by C. Denby Swanson was on Saturday, April 28, and MONROE by Lisa B. Thompson concluded the lineup on Sunday, April 29. Along with the professional staged reading, which featured Austin Playhouse directors and company members, each of the winning playwrights received a $500 prize.

84 Artists Awarded MacDowell Fellowships for Summer Residencies

 The MacDowell Colony has awarded fellowships to 84 artists from 18 states and six countries, from Colorado to Virginia and from Portugal to Nigeria. They are working in seven disciplines, and 43 percent identify as culturally diverse while 56 percent are women. The fellowships are for upcoming summer residencies at one of the nation's leading contemporary arts organizations.

Undermain Theatre presents Whither Goest Thou America: A Festival of New Play Readings. Four weeks of staged readings of new American plays examining the current American Landscape. Each week of the series will focus on a different playwright and play with readings of the play by an ensemble cast and the playwright in attendance for discussion of the work every Saturday night. Audiences will have the opportunity to return each week of the series to experience a new work and author examining the American experience and asking the question, "How did we get here and where are we going?"

Second Thought Theatre Announces 2018 Season

On the heels of closing a successful 13th season, Second Thought Theatre Artistic Director Alex Organ announced details for the company's 2018 season today. The new season adds a fourth production for the first time since 2013 and is comprised of three area premieres and one world premiere. Play selections include 'a work of total fiction' taking place during the 2008 New Hampshire Democratic primary, a committed couple resorting to a miracle drug to regain their capacity for empathy, a city planner fighting for the safety of a town that doesn't want his help, and a provocative ensemble piece that exposes the incongruities of being a woman in the 21st century.
