Based on the beloved film by Adrienne Shelly, Waitress features music and lyrics from six-time Grammy nominee Sara Bareilles ('Love Song,' 'Brave') and book by Jessie Nelson. Waitress tells the story of a pie maker named Jenna who, despite the mundanity of her life, finds comfort and reckoning in the simple magic of baking. With the help of her two friends, Dawn and Becky, she dreams of a way out of her loveless marriage and musters the courage to change her life for the better.

Joanna Ampil, an acclaimed international musical theater star, who also wowed us in her star-turning role as Candida in the musical film "Ang Larawan," made a whirlwind visit to Manila to meet with the local press last Tuesday, August 28.

Just when we thought a restaging of the musical adaptation of a highly-acclaimed Filipino film could never do wonders, we caught ourselves absolutely in awe of what was offered to us on the February 18 matinee of The Sandbox Collective's comeback musical, 'Himala: Isang Musikal' (its last one was 'Dani Girl' in 2014). Restaging may not even be the most appropriate word for this production. This version is more like a reimagination of what initially came to fruition 15 years ago.

There's something in this classic that keeps it resurrecting in different forms. 'Himala' was originally a 1982 haunting, dramatic film written by Ricky Lee and directed by Ishmael Bernal, which of course starred Nora Aunor.

If reading the book and watching the movie 'Fifty Shades of Grey' is not enough, watching Off-Broadway's 50 SHADES! The Musical Parody will surely cap off your personal urges.

This hilariously naughty satire, based on E.L. James' novel "Fifty Shades of Grey," runs at the Carlos P. Romulo Auditorium in Makati City from Monday, February 12, to Sunday, February 28 (weekends only). It previously played 453 performances on Off-Broadway's The Elektra Theatre (300 W. 43rd Street).
