The Guthrie Theater in co-production with Cincinnati Playhouse in the Park, presents the world premiere of Shane by Karen Zacarías, adapted from the novel by Jack Schaefer and directed by Cincinnati Playhouse in the Park Artistic Director Blake Robison. Access Theater Black Box presents The Comedian's Tragedy, an edgy, supernatural love story about Aristophanes struggling with his muse in Ancient Greece, written by Matthew Amendt. Thirteen performances will be staged at the Access Theater Black Box, 380 Broadway, 4th Floor (bet. Walker and White Streets) in New York City from June 21-July 6, 2019.

Of the three shows currently running at the Guthrie, THE ROYAL FAMILY is definitely the lightweight, longer on comedy and razzle-dazzle production values than on importance. (The other two shows are KING LEAR and PROMISE LAND, a barebones physical theater take on the Hansel and Gretel tale retold as an immigrant story.) Loosely based on the Barrymore acting clan, THE ROYAL FAMILY follows three generations of a prominent and wealthy family of performers, with particular attention to the female line.

Park Square concludes its 2016-2017 season with the area premiere of Tim Firth's hilarious and heartfelt comedy Calendar Girls. Based on the hit 2003 film, the play explores loss, friendship, and baring it all as a group of women pose in the buff to benefit a local charity. The ensuing media firestorm puts the women's friendship to the test and reveals the love shared by an extraordinary group of women.
