DANCE NOW announces the lineup for the 2018 Festival ENCORE! The one-night-only performance will feature the 10 choreographers/companies selected by the DANCE NOW producers for having most successfully met the DANCE NOW Challenge: to create a clear and complete artistic statement in five minutes or less for the specifics of the stage at Joe's Pub.

Paper Mill Playhouse has announced casting for The Color Purple, directed by Tony Award winner John Doyle. Cast members from the 2015 Broadway revival lead the Paper Mill Playhouse company, including Adrianna Hicks (Aladdin, Sister Act - Germany) as Celie, Carla R. Stewart (Ghost - National Tour, Rent - Regional) as Shug Avery and Carrie Compere (Holler If You Hear Me,Shrek the Musical - National Tour) as Sofia.

Acclaimed for its adventurous short-takes format, the DANCE NOW Festival presents a diverse array of works by some of today's most exciting dance makers. The 23rd season of this lively fall festival will feature 40 emerging and established choreographers, including DANCE NOW veterans and festival newcomers. The festival emcee is TruDee (aka Deborah Lohse). The 2018 festival will take place Wednesday to Saturday, September 5-8, at 7pm, at Joe's Pub at The Public. A special encore performance will be presented on Thursday, September 27, at 7pm.  

Hudson Valley Dance Festival, the event that's brought stunning pas de deux, striking contemporary pieces, thrilling tap dances and acclaimed world premieres to one extraordinary program, returns on Saturday, October 6, 2018, to Catskill, NY. This day of diverse, enchanting dance is produced by and benefits Dancers Responding to AIDS, a program of Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS.

Velocity presents The Bridge Project: Summer 2018. Three of Seattle's most promising choreographers will take the leap to create three new works within a pressure cooker of just three-weeks. The Bridge Project is Velocity's program for movement-based artists who have been making work in Seattle for three years or less. Just last night, The Women of Achievement Awards Gala celebrated truly outstanding women who have taken risks, pushed limits, and broken ground in a wide variety of fields. This year honored leaders committed to advancing women's narratives and to sharing women's voices on stage, in film and on television: eleven-time Tony Award winning producer Daryl Roth (Kinky Boots, Indecent) and Goldman Sachs Treasurer Beth Hammack.

The 2018 Chita Rivera Awards were handed out last night, May 21 at the NYU Skirball Center for the Performing Arts. The ceremony was hosted by Orfeh and Andy Karl. BroadwayWorld was in attendance at the big event and you can check out photos from the red carpet below!

At this year's Chita Rivera Awards, actress, dancer, and choreographer Carmen de Lavallade received the second annual Lifetime Achievement Award, iconic composer John Kander received the Outstanding Contribution to Musical Theater as a Composer and legendary theater director and producer Harold Prince was presented with the SDC Director Award for Exemplary Collaboration with Choreographers.

From July 14 to August 18, join New York's most imaginative dance company and an ensemble of Australian dancers in a 50 minute exercise tour through the corridors and gallery spaces of Arts Centre Melbourne and the NGV, outside of opening hours. The Gallery Workout is sure to inspire new perspectives on the art of the ages through movement, unforgettable music and stories from celebrated American artist Maira Kalman. Jacob's Pillow announces the Festival 2018 complete schedule, encompassing over ten weeks packed with ticketed and free performances, pop-up performances, exhibits, talks, classes, films, and dance parties on its 220-acre site in the Berkshire Hills of Western Massachusetts. Jacob's Pillow is the longest-running dance festival in the United States, a National Historic Landmark, and a National Meal of Arts recipient. Founded in 1933, the Pillow has recently added to its rich history by expanding into a year-round center for dance research and development.

Juniper Productions continues its mission to open the doors to exciting and enriching theatrical experiences in unconventional venues throughout Philadelphia with its newest project and first full-length production, staged at 1025 Hamilton in the city's Spring Arts District designed especially for entrepreneurial creatives.

The 2018 Dance-mopolitan Artist Series, produced by DANCE NOW, presents Megan Williams Dance Projects in ONE WOMAN SHOW, a post-postmodern dance theater follies for the small stage. Megan Williams finds the roots of her aesthetic DNA in the proto-feminist female archetypes of 30s, 40s and 50s Hollywood and uses them as a lens to view the experience of the 21st-century woman-of a-certain-age. Part memoir, part spectacle, ONE WOMAN SHOW aims to grab the moment and hold on tight. The work features celebrated dance artists Esme Boyce, Robert Mark Burke, Derek Crescenti, Dylan Crossman, John Eirich, Kristen Foote, Chelsea Hecht, Courtney Lopes, and Megan Williams. With costume design by Barbara Erin Delo and sound design by Sam Crawford.

DANCE NOW is thrilled to present an encore presentation of Places Please!, an evening-length duet created and performed by longtime collaborators Larry Keigwin and Nicole Wolcott of KEIGWIN + COMPANY. Two performances only: Today, January 11, at 7pm, and Sunday, January 14, at 5pm, at Joe's Pub at The Public, 425 Lafayette Street (between East 4th Street and Astor Place), in Manhattan.
