Lincoln Center Announces 2020/21 Great Performers Season

Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts today announced details of its 2020/21 Great Performers series. Now in its 55th year, the series is dedicated to presenting outstanding renowned and emerging artists from across the globe in the concert halls and theaters across the institution's iconic campus. The season features an array of the world's most accomplished and inventive orchestras, conductors, recitalists, and chamber ensembles, performing classical and bold, cutting-edge repertoire.

HADESTOWN, A STAR IS BORN, Beyonce, & More Among Winners at the Grammy Premiere Ceremony

The GRAMMY AWARDS Premiere Ceremony took place at Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles on Sunday, January 26, from 12:30-3:30 p.m. PT. Preceding the 62nd Annual GRAMMY AWARDS telecast, the Premiere Ceremony was hosted by two-time GRAMMY winner and current nominee Imogen Heap and featured a number of performances by current GRAMMY nominees. Performers included classical violinist Nicola Benedetti, jazz legend Chick Corea, folk music supergroup I'm With Her, West African sensation Angélique Kidjo and Best New Artist nominee Yola.

DON GIOVANNI Launches Opera Atelier's 2019/20 Season

Opera Atelier's 2019/20 Season opens with their ground-breaking period production of Don Giovanni from October 31a?"November 9, 2019 at the Ed Mirvish Theatre. This is the first time Opera Atelier's acclaimed production has been remounted for Toronto audiences since its 2011 premiere. Don Giovanni features Douglas Williams as Don Giovanni, Colin Ainsworth as Don Ottavio, Gustav Andreassen as the Commendatore, Mireille Asselin as Zerlina, Stephen Hegedus as Leporello, Carla Huhtanen as Donna Elvira, Olivier Laquerre as Masetto, and Meghan Lindsay as Donna Anna. 

JACK Quartet Announces 2019-2020 Season 

The 2019-2020 season sees the innovative JACK Quartet continuing to push the boundaries of contemporary music, with a series of performances in the ensemble's hometown of New York City, tours to Europe in both the Fall and Spring, numerous premieres of new works, performances of the complete quartets of John Zorn and Clara Iannotta, the inaugural JACK Frontiers festival, and the inaugural season of the ensemble's new JACK Studio program. 

JUDGMENT DAY Gets World Premiere At Park Avenue Armory

This December, Park Avenue Armory will round out its 2019 season with the world premiere of a new adaptation of ?-dön von Horváth's 1937 play Judgment Day, an ambitious work that explores morality, responsibility, and the guilt of a small-town's train stationmaster and his community. The adaptation, commissioned by the Armory and penned by Obie Award-winning and Pulitzer Prize-nominated playwright Christopher Shinn, is staged by famed British theater director Richard Jones, who returns to the Armory to helm this gripping moral parable following his critically acclaimed, eight-time Drama Deska?"nominated production of The Hairy Ape  at the Armory in 2017. With much of the narrative centered around an ill-fated train depot, Judgment Day and its vast set will take on special resonance in the 55,000-square-foot Wade Thompson Drill Halla?"reminiscent of the great nineteenth century train sheds of Europe, with its vaulted ceiling and raw industrial design. The production runs December 5, 2019 through January 11, 2020. Casting will be announced in the coming weeks.

Cape Cod Chamber Music Festival Presents Emerson String Quartet

Cape Cod Chamber Music Festival (CCCMF) celebrating its 40th anniversary season as Cape Cod's premiere presenter of summer chamber music, presents Festival favorite and nine-time Grammy Award winning Emerson String Quartet in The Emerson and Barber's Adagio on Wednesday, August 7, 7:30 pm at First Congregational Church, 200 Main Street, Wellfleet.

Nine Opera Singers Advance To Final Round Of 2019 Met National Council Auditions

Following yesterday's highly competitive semifinal competition, nine singers will advance to the final phase of the 65th annual Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions, America's largest vocal competition. The winners will receive individual cash prizes of $15,000, while the remaining finalists will receive prizes of $7,500.

Shawn Mendes Wins Album of the Year at the 2019 JUNO AWARDS

The Canadian Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences (CARAS) andCBC took over Budweiser Gardens this evening for Canada's biggest awards night in music. The awards, hosted by Sarah McLachlan, were broadcast live on CBC, CBC Radio One, CBC Music, the free CBC Gem streaming service, and globally at cbcmusic.ca/junos. The highly anticipated event opened with London's own Loud Luxury who took the stage with an electrifying performance alongside the Western University Marching Band for their London homecoming.

The Cleveland Orchestra Announces 2019-20 Season

The Cleveland Orchestra and Music Director Franz Welser-M st announced details of their 2019-2020 season which encompasses 76 concerts over 26 weeks. One significant highlight includes a festival designed to explore music and art that was banned, marginalized, and destroyed during the Nazi's Degenerate Art movement, and the continuing impact of censorship on creative expression in society today. The festival will center on Alban Berg's Lulu, one of the 20th century's most influential operas, and includes partner programming with the area's notable arts institutions.

Soloists From Equilibrium Young Artists Announced For Mozart's Requiem

After announcing their new partnership in December 2018, the Toronto Symphony Orchestra (TSO) and Equilibrium Young Artists (EQ) revealed today that soprano Jenavieve Moore, mezzo-soprano Jillian Bonner, tenor Charles Sy, and bass Trevor Eliot Bowes will be the featured vocal soloists in Mozart's Requiem with the TSO conducted by Sir Andrew Davis at Roy Thomson Hall in January 2020

The winners of the American Vocal Arts 2019 International Collegiate Singing ChampionshipTM have been announced! The winners have been chosen from all over the world. The competition, sponsored by American Vocal Arts, emphasizes competitive collegiate singing that spans across borders. The goal of the competition is to award the best singers from around the world who are currently enrolled or have recently graduated from an undergraduate or graduate program in music. The winners were selected based on talent, potential, and overall presentation.

Barbara Hannigan Makes Her New York Conducting Debut With The Juilliard Orchestra

Singer/conductor Barbara Hannigan makes her New York conducting debut with the Juilliard Orchestra in works by Strauss, Haydn, Debussy, Sibelius, and Bartok on Friday, February 8, 2019, at 7:30pm in Alice Tully Hall. The program features Strauss' "Salome's Dance" from Salome, Op. 54; Haydn's Symphony No. 96 in D Major, Hob. I:96, ("The Miracle"); Debussy's Syrinx (flute soloist to be announced); Sibelius' Luonnatar, Op. 70, with Juilliard soprano Meghan Kasanders; and Bartok's Suite from The Miraculous Mandarin. Hannigan made her debut as a conductor in 2011 at the Chatelet in Paris with Stravinsky's Renard; the soprano has been dividing her time between singing and conducting ever since.

The month of February at the Toronto Symphony Orchestra (TSO) marks the returns of singer & conductor Barbara Hannigan, superstar cellist Alisa Weilerstein, and the National Arts Centre Orchestra. Moreover, Interim Artistic Director Sir Andrew Davis celebrates his birthday on the TSO podium, and some principal players from the Orchestra Jonathan Crow, Joseph Johnson, and Kelly Zimba take centre stage performing Brahms and Debussy.
