A few weeks before BroadwayWorld.com Cabaret Reviewer and Columnist Stephen Hanks was about to stage the opening night of his debut solo cabaret show on May 31, a number of cabaret performers asked him if he was going to write about the experience in some way, with some even encouraging him to keep a diary. 'It might be really interesting to read how your perspective about cabaret performers and performing might have changed and how it might impact your reviews now that you're doing it yourself,' commented one singer. 'It was a fascinating notion and one that I had already thought about,' Hanks admits, 'but between a full time job, attending shows, writing reviews, taking vocal lessons, rehearsing, etc., finding the time and the energy to keep even a weekly diary was not in the cards.' Hanks certainly didn't think he'd forget even the little things that have gone into making his journey what he calls 'an amazing, fantasy-fulfilling, almost surreal experience.' On the eve of his last performance of his three-show run (over three weeks) at the Metropolitan Room of Beyond American Pie: The Don McLean Songbook, BroadwayWorld.com sat down with our lead cabaret reviewer to get his insights and perspective on what's it been like to be on the performer end of things.

Melbourne Recital Centre has presented for the third year the highly acclaimed and popular American Songbook series. After a sold-out success last year American Songbook series returns bigger and better this year with a fabulous line up of local and international artists.

Barb Jungr made a very welcome return to the Adelaide Cabaret Festival, her last visit having been in 2006, when she presented her unique interpretations of the songs of Bob Dillon. Together with her musical director, accompanist, and co-writer, Simon Wallace, her performance consisted of a combination of interpretations of songs by several other famous singers, and a number of her own songs.

The Eugene O'Neill Theater Center has announced its final schedule of performances for the 2013 Cabaret & Performance Conference. Beginning July 31, the ten-day conference will feature performances nightly, with the Grand Finale on Saturday evening, August 11.

Brighton Fringe has launched its 2013 programme online, offering a huge variety of 685 shows (and counting) with 3275 performances and 210 premieres in 178 venues with 38 international acts and 220 home-grown Brighton shows which makes it the richest and largest yet. Not only this but this year England's biggest arts festival lasts longer, running an extra week from tonight, 4 May to 2 June to incorporate both spring bank holidays and half term.

Based on the well-loved book by Michael Rosen, this adaptation by Barb Jungr and Peter is brought to life in a brand new puppetry production with extraordinary music and lyrics by renowned singer/songwriter Barb Jungr and puppet design by Lyndie Wright. During that time every conceivable space in the South Coast city is transformed into a place of creative celebration. Throughout the merry month of May, Brighton positively buzzes with activity. From theatre to dance, comedy to music, visual art to literary events, high flying installations, dance and circus, there is something for everyone throughout the day and long into the spring evenings for what is always a highlight in the UK's arts calendar. And true to Brighton's slightly rebellious nature there will be plenty of surprises that could only happen in Britain's favourite seaside city.

The Manhattan Association of Cabarets & Clubs will present the 27th Annual MAC Awards on Thursday, March 21st, at B.B King Blues Club & Grill in New York City.

With fresh and insightful interpretations, International cabaret star Barb Jungr breathes new life into the music of Bob Dylan. Hailed by critics, the show has been called 'revelatory' by the NY Post and "cosmic" by The Wall Street Journal. The New York Times praised the performance saying it 'landed with an explosion.' For adults, we welcome Flabbergast Theatre's anarchic BORIS AND SERGEY straight from their Soho Theatre run, and the successful Edinburgh hits by Theatre Témoin (THE FANTASIST) and The Wrong Crowd (THE GIRL WITH THE IRON CLAWS). The season starts with Santé Theatre's PASSING ON written by Mike Kenny.

Following a successful first season with events spanning all genres of entertainment, from stand-up comedy and musical cabaret to jazz trios and West End favourites - and featuring artists such as Frisky and Mannish, Sharon D. Clarke and Hadley Fraser - the second season of events in the St. James Studio is officially announced today.
