Loretta Ables Sayre, Freddy Cole, Kalani Pe'a and HIROSHIMA Take the Blue Note Hawaii Stage This April

Blue Note Hawaii welcomes some of music's most renowned artists this month, kicking off with the 60th birthday celebration of Loretta Ables Sayre with special guest star Robert Cazimero. The Hawaii News Now Jazz Legends series continues with Freddy Cole, one of the most influential jazz singers in history and the younger brother of musical icon Nat “King” Cole. Local favorite and the 2017 GRAMMY® Award winner from Hawaii Kalani Pe'a is up next, followed by genre-bending blues and bluegrass artists Dirty Cello. Blayne Asing & Alx Kawakami join forces for two nights and innovative African artist Vieux Farka Touré has his Blue Note Hawaii debut. Streetlight Cadence returns home to Hawaii for two nights, followed by artist in residence, Robert Cazimero. Next up is a round of local talent with shows by Keauhou, Josh Tatofi and Makana, which is a fundraiser for the Willie K Cancer Fund. Mike Lewis continues his series of tribute shows paying homage to Ray Charles, Louis Armstrong and Ella Fitzgerald, the music of Roberta Flack, as well as presenting a Big Band Extravaganza, featuring some of the area's most talented high school and collegiate level jazz bands. Josh Kaye and Friends will celebrate the music of Stax Records, which launched the careers of Issac Hayes, Wilson Picket, Otis Redding, Sam & Dave and many more. Gypsy 808 will present the music of Django Reinhardt and the month ends with a bang when HIROSHIMA returns to the Blue Note stage.

Blue Note Hawaii & Hawaii News Now to Present Pop Legend Dionne Warwick this May

Hawaii News Now and Blue Note Hawaii, the state's premier venue for the world's most celebrated artists, announce four nights with pop legend Dionne Warwick May 17 – 20, 2018. This will be the first time Warwick will appear on stage at the Blue Note Hawaii and is generously sponsored by Outrigger Resorts.

Willie K Returns to The Blue Note Hawaii Stage

For the first time since his announcement of a cancer diagnosis, the incomparable Willie K is set to return to the stage at Blue Note Hawaii on March 27. One of the artists who holds a residency, Willie K regularly plays to sold out houses at the famed jazz club located at the Outrigger Waikiki. He will be unable to perform at his previously scheduled date of April 24 when slack key virtuoso Makana will perform in a benefit concert, with Blue Note Hawaii donating 100% of its ticket proceeds to the Willie K Cancer Fund.

Tito Jackson and the B.B. King Blues Band to headline annual Homecoming Festival

The annual B.B. King Homecoming Festival will return this year to Fletcher Park in Indianola while work continues on an expansion of the museum that bears King's name. Featured at this year's festival on June 2nd will be Tito Jackson and the B.B. King Blues Band. Jackson, well known for his role with the Jackson 5 and The Jacksons, teamed up with the B.B. King Blues Band in 2017 to become their new lead singer. The band is comprised of many of King's former band members who still perform together, so event goers will likely see familiar faces.

The California Honeydrops New Track LIVE LEARN Debuts at No Depression

“Live Learn,” the second track from The California Honeydrops' upcoming album, premieres at No Depression who call it, “a playful tune that's impossible not to dance along to,” furthering, “[it] opens with a plunking bass before lead singer Lech Wierzynski joins in on a call-and-response banter with the bass, even as a bright guitar riff adds some tasty seasoning to the bubbling stew.”

Brian Charette, George Coleman, Vic Juris Come to Blue Note NYC This Spring

New York City organist/pianist, Brian Charette, has established himself as a leading voice in modern Jazz. Charette is a Grammy-nominated, Hammond-endorsed artist who was the winner of the 2014 Downbeat Critics' Poll Rising Star: Organ award and has climbed to 4th place in The Critic's Poll main organ category. In 2015 Brian also won The Hot House Magazine's Fan's Decision Jazz Award for Best Organist in New York. His last Positone Records recording, Once and Future, reached #17 on the Jazz Week chart and was also on the iTunes new music Top 20. This Summer, Brian just released his new Circuit Bent Organ trio recording, Kurrent, and featuring Ben Monder.  Groovin' With Big G on Steeplechase Records release date is March 15. The CD features legendary saxophonist George Coleman, guitarist Vic Juris and drummer George Coleman Jr.

John Minnock Returns To The Triad, 3/31

Fan-favorite vocalist John Minnock, known for his modern twists on cabaret classics, will be continuing his 'Every Day Blues' residency at the Triad Theater on Saturday, March 31 at 9:30 PM. The Triad Theater is located at 158 W 72nd St in New York City. Tickets are $20 and may be reserved here. 

2018 MAC Award Nominees Announced

The Manhattan Association of Cabarets (MAC) is pleased to announce the 2018 MAC Award nominees. The nominees, in a majority of the categories, were determined by votes cast by the active MAC membership. The MAC Board of Directors selected the nominees for Show of the Year. Special committees selected the nominees in the Ensemble Instrumentalist, Piano Bar Instrumentalist, Piano Bar Singing Entertainer (Female; Male), Recording (LaMott Friedman), Major Recording, Song and Comedy/Novelty Song categories. The names of the songwriters in the Song and Comedy/Novelty Song categories are being withheld during the voting period, but will be announced publicly as soon as the voting period concludes.

The California Honeydrops' Announce New Album CALL IT HOME: Vol 1 & 2 Due April 6

The California Honeydrops' seventh album (and first double album) Call It Home: Vol. 1 & 2 is set for release on April 6 via Tubtone Records. The lead track, “Call It Home” features music legend Bonnie Raitt, with whom the band supported on her 2016-2017 Dig In Deep tour. The song premieres at Noisey, who proclaim, “'Call It Home' is a smooth, sensuous song, with a guitar part evoking a hot summer day, an organ that sends you to the front pew and a brass section that feels like something straight out of The Blues Brothers.”

The three-part series Monochrome: Black, White & Blue featuring Morgan Freeman, Chuck Berry, Bill Wyman, B.B. King, Jake Bugg, Carlos Santana, Ronnie Wood, Eric Clapton, Robert Cray and many more, will explore the deep-routed history of blues music in America - available exclusively on Prime Video, through Amazon Video Direct, from Monday February 12, 2018.

SPRINGSTEEN ON BROADWAY to Hold Special Performance for SiriusXM Subscribers

SiriusXM announced today that Bruce Springsteen will perform 'Springsteen on Broadway,' his critically-praised Broadway show, at Jujamcyn's Walter Kerr Theatre for a selected audience of SiriusXM subscribers including faithful E Street Radio channel listeners on Wednesday, March 14.

Sony Corporation & Blue Note Media Group Announce Landmark Sponsorship

Sony Corporation ('Sony') and Blue Note Media Group ('Blue Note' / 'BNMG') - the sponsorship affiliate of Blue Note Entertainment Group, the organization that owns, operates, licenses, and/or programs 10 music venues worldwide including the iconic Blue Note Jazz Club - today announced a landmark strategic sponsorship agreement. As part of the sponsorship, Sony will collaborate with Blue Note to open 'Sony Hall,' a new music venue in Manhattan, sponsor the annual Blue Note Jazz Festival each June in New York City, as well as other plans to be announced. Located in the heart of New York's Theatre District (235 W. 46th St at the Paramount Hotel, in the space previously known as Diamond Horseshoe), Sony Hall is scheduled to open in Spring 2018.

MAC To Honor Sharon McNight, Ruby Rims, and James Gavin

The Manhattan Association of Cabarets (MAC) will present Tony nominee SHARON McNIGHT and RUBY RIMS with its 2018 Lifetime Achievement Awards at the 32nd Annual MAC Awards to be held Tuesday, March 27 at 7:00 pm at B.B. King Blues Club & Grill in New York City.
