Lisa D'Amour and Melissa James Gibson are this year's recipients of the 2011 Steinberg Playwright Awards, presented by The Harold and Mimi Steinberg Charitable Trust at Lincoln Center last night, November 14. The Steinberg Playwright Awards are presented biennially, and are uniquely positioned to honor the accomplishments of some of the most gifted up-and-coming American playwrights, and to recognize the promise they hold for the future of American theatre.

Last night, November 14, The Williamstown Theatre Festival honored the Festival's renowned Training Programs at its Annual Benefit, 'We The Future' at the Edison Ballroom in New York City. The evening, hosted by Award-winning comedian (and Williamstown veteran) Lewis Black, featured former WTF alumni Tony Goldwyn (Promises, Promises; 1981 Non-Equity Company), Kathryn Hahn (Revolutionary Road, 1997 Non-Equity Company) and Constantine Maroulis ('American Idol,' 2002 WTF Apprentice), performing with members of the 2011 Apprentice and Non-Equity companies. Classic Stage Company's new production of Anton Chekhov's tragicomic masterpiece THE CHERRY ORCHARD, featuring John Turturro (Lopakhin), Dianne Wiest (Ranevskaya), Ken Cheeseman (Pischick), Daniel Davis (Gaev), Alvin Epstein (Fiers), Josh Hamilton (Trofimov), Slate Holmgren (Yasha), Roberta Maxwell (Charlotta), Juliet Rylance (Varya), Michael Urie (Yepikhodov), Elisabeth Waterston (Dunyasha) and Katherine Waterston (Anya), has extended its upcoming engagement through Friday, December 30. Previews begin Wednesday, November 16 at CSC (136 East 13th Street). THE CHERRY ORCHARD is directed by Andrei Belgrader, with a translation by John Christopher Jones. The official press opening is scheduled for Sunday, December 4 at 7pm.

According to the Chicago Tribune, DETROIT, which premiered at Chicago's Steppenwolf Theatre Company in 2010, will play West End's National Theatre in May 2012. The production, which was originally set for a Broadway opening, will feature new staging and an all new cast. Jeffrey Richards, who still holds the Broadway rights, said that he still plans to bring the show to the Great White Way.

MAIEUTIC THEATER WORKS (MTWorks) has announced the world premiere production of Rich Rubin's COSTA REHAB, directed by Shelly Feldman. COSTA REHAB will play a three-week limited engagement at the Workshop Theater (312 West 36th Street, 4th Floor). Performances begin Thursday, November 3 and continue through Saturday, November 19. Opening Night is Friday, November 4 (8 p.m.).

Comedy, romance, and music save the day in TWO GENTLEMEN OF VERONA. Proteus and Valentine, lifelong friends, are about to embark on youthful adventures: for Valentine, and his witty servant Speed, it's off to the Court of Milan to make his fortune. Proteus would rather stay home in Verona to pursue amorous adventures with the radiant Julia, but soon he too is bound for Milan, with his trusty servant, Launce, and his faithful dog Crab.
