The Fleur du Cap Theatre Awards has been renamed the Cape Town Theatre Awards, marking a new chapter under a newly established NPO. CATS leads with 11 nominations among 65 eligible productions across 23 categories.

A private, invitation only industry reading of the new musical Mandela will be held on Thursday, March 14 and Friday, March 15, 2019. Mandela has music and lyrics by two South African composer/lyricists signed to Sony/ATV Music Publishing, Greg Dean Borowsky and Shaun Borowsky, with a book by Laiona Michelle (Little Girl Blue: The Nina Simone Musical). This reading is directed by Schele Williams (Rent, Motown: The Musical), with music direction by Alvin Hough, Jr. (Once On This Island). Fifth Estate Entertainment (Nathan Gehan/Jamison Scott) serves as general manager for the reading. The reading will be attended by Nandi Mandela, Nelson Mandela's granddaughter, on behalf of the Mandela family who have officially partnered with the show.

Boesman and Lena officially opened on Monday, February 26 in the Alice Griffin Jewel Box Theatre at the Pershing Square Signature Center. The production is a limited engagement through March 17, 2019.

Classic Stage Company devotes the beginning of 2019 to the timeless emotional and social resonance of August Strindberg, with new productions of two acclaimed adaptations-Yael Farber's Mies Julie and Conor McPherson's new version of The Dance of Death-presented in repertory.

Signature Theatre presents Boesman and Lena by Athol Fugard and directed by Yael Farber.The production runs February 5, 2019 to March 17, 2019 with a February 25, 2019 opening night in The Alice Griffin Jewel Box Theatre at The Pershing Square Signature Center (480 West 42nd Street between 9th and 10th Avenues).

The 51st annual Fleur du Cap Theatre Awards has announced its 2015 nominees, reflecting a rich realm of theatre talent seen on stages throughout the Western Cape. The glamorous awards ceremony will take place on Sunday, 20 March, at 18:00 at the Baxter Theatre in Cape Town and will personify a fusion of cultures, food and Fleur du Cap win

From South Africa's acclaimed Market Theatre, the intensely funny and poignant Sizwe Banzi is Dead starts tonight, February 25 at Syracuse Stage. In this award-winning classic about the universal struggle for human dignity, a black man in apartheid-era South Africa tries to overcome oppressive work regulations to support his family. Co-creator John Kani performed in the original production and won the 1975 Tony Award for Best Actor. Now, 40 years later, Kani directs his son, Atandwa Kani, in this new international production.
