Black Box Theatre comes to Pittsburg! In a new venture, Pittsburg Community Theatre will present full length shows in an intimate setting: local hot-spot Steeltown Coffee and Tea. What is Black box theatre? Simply, an intimate performance space, in this case in Steeltown Coffee & Tea, with plain black walls (curtains) on a level floor. This is an ideal format for PCT to provide additional performance opportunities for both the actors and patrons to enjoy. Adrian Badger, Steeltown proprietor, is 'excited to be part of PCTs new Black Box Theatre project and as an avid PCT supporter, Steeltown looks forward to hosting creative and unique productions at the coffeehouse.'

The Waterville Opera House (WOH) will present a mystery that shines a new light on favorite characters when Miss Holmes opens this January in Waterville. Inspired by the works of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, it's not just another mystery - it's a reexamination of the Victorian world of Holmes and Watson that explores the added obstacles that these two iconic characters would have faced if they had been women.

Harry Houdini wrote Sir Arthur Conan Doyle a heartfelt plea to recommend a medium 'you know to be genuine.' His mother had just died and he wanted proof she had not completely vanished. The friends investigated mediums in the U.K., France and the U.S., where Scientific American was to pronounce the medium Margery genuine. They witnessed Eva C's ecotoplasm and, in Atlantic City, Lady Doyle's inspired communication.

Abney Park Cemetery in Stoke Newington becomes the Devonshire moor in 09 Lives' production of The Hound of the Baskervilles. Lil Warren directs the promenade show in the creepy setting, with only minimal lighting accompanying Holmes (Giorgio Galassi) and Watson (Gary Cain) as they try to solve perhaps their most notorious of cases. Arthur Conan Doyle himself (Angus Chisolm) is the evening's emcee, pitching in with background information, backstories, and leading the audience onto the next scene through the tombstones aided by facilitators with flashlights.

Delaware Theatre Co opens its season with THE HOUND OF THE BASKERVILLES. For Arthur Conan Doyle adherents, this is pipedreams away from Benedict Cumberbatch OR in my case, Basil Rathbone (my favorite all time baddest of bad guys in the movies of the 50's).
