Sharmi Basu's #HOWDOIFINDYOU? to be Presented at The Kitchen This Month

The Kitchen will present Sharmi Basu’s #HOWDOIFINDYOU?, the culmination of the multimedia performance artist, curator, composer, and arts organizer’s participation in the The Kitchen’s 2021 Research Residency, and the first public event stemming from the residency (October 27 at 7pm at The Kitchen’s temporary “home away from home” at Westbeth.

David Sedaris Returns To Popejoy Hall This November

Master of satire, David Sedaris, returns to Popejoy Hall November 11, 2022 at 7:30 pm to read both new and unpublished works. An Evening with David Sedaris features his iconic self-deprecating humor, as well as stories of his family, friends, jobs, addictions, and education. With sardonic wit and experiences that go beyond relatable, Sedaris promises an evening of laughter from the wonderful highs and humbling lows.

Tenor Eric Ferring to Release 'No Choice But Love: Songs of the LGBTQ+ Community'

The two-CD length album seeks to highlight diverse LGBTQIA+ voices and perspectives, through revelatory performances of important songs by some of today’s leading composers, including the world premiere recording of Ben Moore’s Love Remained in a new version for tenor, and the commissioned title work, No Choice but Love.

Frist Art Museum Announces 2023 Schedule Of Exhibitions

The Frist Art Museum has announced its 2023 schedule of  exhibitions. In the Ingram Gallery, the year begins with Jeffrey Gibson: The Body Electric, a survey of the celebrated Indigenous multidisciplinary artist's vibrant paintings, sculpture, video, and installations.

Eric Firestone Gallery Presents Solo Exhibition Of Groundbreaking Postwar Artist Nina Yankowitz This Fall

Eric Firestone Gallery ushers in its fall season with its first solo show of works by postwar abstract painter Nina Yankowitz, whom the gallery now represents. Opening Friday, September 9 at 40 Great Jones Street, Can Women Have One Man Shows? comprises Yankowitz's Draped Paintings and Pleated Paintings series, bodies of work spanning the 1960s and 70s in which the artist created unstretched canvases hanging in loose folds, eschewing the conventional use of rigid frames and stretcher bars.

Brooklyn Academy of Music Presents MARTINE SYMS' THE AFRICAN DESPERATE, Plus A Series Of Cinematic Influences

From September 9—15, acclaimed artist Martine Syms gathers together an eclectic group of films that influenced her debut feature, The African Desperate, for the series Martine Syms' Influences featuring indie classics, hidden gems by major directors, and avant-garde pieces by contemporary visual artists. The series leads into a run of Syms' The African Desperate opening at BAM September 16.

GRAY Presents CITING BLACK GEOGRAPHIES

Citing Black Geographies presents the work of fifteen artists whose practices examine “black space”—a term describing the topographies, zones, scenes, and structures that portend black cultural experience.

Works By Jeffrey Gibson, Peter Sacks, and Others Enter Rose Collection

Purchased with funds from the museum's endowment, the most recent acquisitions include Jeffrey Gibson's BY ANY MEANS NECESSARY (2021), Barkley L. Hendricks's photograph Self Portrait with Black Hat (1980–2013), Peter Sacks's mix-media work Without Name (2020), and Marie Watt's Forerunner (2020).
