Friends of Florence Completes Major Restoration of Renaissance Frescoes at Basilica of the Santissima Annunziata

Friends of Florence and its partners celebrate the completion of a four-year restoration project at the Basilica of the Santissima Annunziata in Florence of twelve superb lunette frescoes, architectural elements, and marble statues in the Cloister of the Vows funded by the organization.

Blaffer Art Museum is pleased to present Early Awnings, a collaboration between German artist Henning Bohl and American artist Sergei Tcherepnin. Organized by Blaffer director and chief curator Claudia Schmuckli, the exhibition opens with a public conversation between Bohl and Tcherepnin at 6:30 p.m. Friday, May 29, immediately followed by a reception from 7 to 9 p.m. The exhibition continues through Sept. 5.

Secretary Wayne Clough announced today he will retire from his position at the Smithsonian in October 2014 after having served more than six years as head of the Institution. Clough joined the Smithsonian in July 2008, succeeding Acting Secretary Cristián Samper. Before coming to the Smithsonian, Clough served as president of the Georgia Institute of Technology for 14 years.
