Island City Stage Presents The Hit Musical ALTAR BOYS, playing Now Through Feb. 16

Having saved souls on the Ohio bingo-hall-and-pancake-breakfast circuit with rousing songs such as 'Jesus Called Me on My Cell Phone' and 'God Put the Rhythm in Me', the Altar Boyz, Matthew, Mark, Luke, Juan and Abraham, have taken their heavenly boy-band act on the road and are making a final stop in sinful Wilton Manors.

That's just the beginning of Lane Stanley's 'Lipstick', a sweet, silly farce with a heart of gold and drawer full of sex toys!

 Funding Arts Broward (FAB!), a nonprofit volunteer-based arts organization committed to supporting, sustaining and enriching the arts in Broward County, presented its Fall Luncheon on October 15 at the Broward Center for the Performing Arts' Mary N. Porter Riverview Ballroom. Attendees enjoyed a celebration of the arts featuring an engaging presentation, “Island City Stage: Our Lives, Our Stories,” by guest speaker Martin Childers, managing director of Island City Stage. Island City Stage is an organization creating quality theatrical experiences that focus on the LGBTQ community but have a heart and soul that is truly universal.

The South Florida Silver Palm Theatre Awards, founded twelve years ago to honor theatrical excellence in South Florida, has announced that this year it will present the coveted award to 26 individuals and organizations.

The Off Broadway hit Daddy Issues, written and directed by David Goldyn, is returning to South Florida after a short but successful stint at Boca Raton's Willow Theatre last March. The production will run from October 18th through November 3rd at the Theatre at CSL (Center for Spiritual Living) in Oakland Park.    

The 2018-2019 Silver Palm Awards will be presented on Monday, November 4, 2019 at ArtServe, in Ft. Lauderdale. This year marks the 12th annual distribution of the awards, established in 2007 to honor outstanding contributions to theatre in the region by playwright Tony Finstrom, actresstalk show host Iris Acker, and theatre critic Ron Levitt.

Island City Stage, now the largest producer of non-musical plays in Broward County with over 500 subscribers, gears up for it's 8th season of theatrical works that focus on the LGBT+ community but have a heart and soul that speak universally to all theater fans. Island City Stage has become known as a theater where both straight theater lovers and members of the LGBT+ community feel equally comfortable sharing stories of love and heartbreak and tragedy and comedy.

Imagine sitting with your best friend, drinking beers and watching the Oscars on TV when, all of the sudden one of the winners names you as the bully who tormented him and provoked his best friend into committing suicide. That's only the first few minutes of the explosive play, 'From White Plains' by Michael Perlman being given it's South Florida premiere at Island City Stage.

The South Florida theatre community will unite to celebrate the life of Tony Finstrom on Monday, January 21, 2019 at Lynn University's Wold Performing Arts Center in Boca Raton. The beloved theatrical playwright, producer, philanthropist, and fan was a dynamic theatre champion and one of most beloved members of the arts community. His dear friends, and key members of the theatre realm, have planned a very special tribute, highlighting his indelible impact on not only the South Florida Theatre Community, but all he touched. Or rather, Associate Artistic Director Michael Leeds imagines what it would be like if they did in his new show 'Bette and Barry: From Bathhouse to Broadway'. Picture all those memorable songs like "Wind Beneath My Wings, "Copacabana" "The Rose" and "I Write The Songs" sung by Bette & Barry and backed by the legendary Harlettes. "It's A Miracle" you say. "Could It Be Magic" you ask. Bring your "Friends" and find out!

Award-winning South Florida Playwright Dan Clancy premieres his latest work, At Home, at the Levis JCC Sandler Center's Theater at the J. Directed by Andy Rogow and featuring actors Michael McKeever and Patti Gardner, all Carbonell Award winners, this new comedy/drama is a moving and inspiring portrait of a family over the span of 50 years. Performances for this World Premiere runs from November 29 - December 16.
