Island City Stage Presents The Tennessee Williams' SUDDENLY LAST SUMMER
![]()
"
We all use each other and that's what we think of as love."
This haunting line embodies the characters that inhabit the foreboding tropical garden of a mansion in New Orleans that is the setting for the classic Tennessee Williams play. "Suddenly, Last Summer". It's owner, Violet Venable, is determined to lobotomize her niece, Catherine, to keep her quiet about the mysterious death of her son, Sebastian. Hypocrisy, greed, sexual repression, cannabilism and a secret journal infuse the drama that Williams considered his most poetic.
Carbonell Award wiining actor Angie Radosh stars in this production and she couldn't be more thrilled. "Ever since I read 'The Glass Menagerie' in high school, Tennesse Williams' women have been on my bucket list. Every actress wants to play Maggie, Hannah, Alma, and of course, Amanda and Blanche. Williams writes with such sensitivity and lyricism... characters of depth and passion...challenging roles, yes, but so rewarding. I have had the honor of doing Streetcar and Glass Menagerie and now, I am preparing to take on what many feel is the most formidable Williams woman...Violet Venable. It is a true challenge because she's woman of such distorted love. I've had a career full of challenging roles...this one is probably the most challenging; it is a gift and I am so grateful to Andy Rogow for choosing this play and asking me to be part of it."
In addition to Ms. Radosh, the cast features Carbonell nominee Jeanine Gangloff Levy, multi-Carbonell award winner,Laura Turnbull, New City Players Artistic Director Tim Davis, Carbonell nominee Elizabeth Price, newcomer Sarah Burns and "Altar Boyz" star Jonathan Furedy. The design team features sets by D'Vaughn Agu, lighting by Preston Bircher, costumes by W. Emil White, and sound by David Hart.
"Suddenly, Last Summer" begins previews on Mar. 26 and 27 with a Carbonell and press opening on Mar. 28. Performances are Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays at 8:00 p.m. and Sundays at 5:00 p.m. through April 26 at the home of Island City Stage, The Wilton Theatre Factory, 2304 N Dixie Hwy, Wilton Manors.
