Andrew Lloyd Webber's Cinderella began previews last night at the Gillian Lynne Theatre. The show took the stage after UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson announced that the re-opening of West End theatres had been delayed to July 19, but that he was working with Webber on a plan to make the show's previous plans work, allowing the show to open.

As BroadwayWorld reported yesterday, composer Andrew Lloyd Webber and artists within the theatre and music industries in the UK announced that they would take legal action against the UK Government to release the results of their COVID-19 Events Research Programme, which was established to study the risk of transmission of COVID-19 at large events. Today, the UK Government has officially released the findings.

News today of a delay in the UK's full re-opening is a devastating blow to West End theatres, which now cannot open at full capacity until July 19. Andrew Lloyd's Webber's new Cinderella, which was due to begin performances on June 25, is one of the shows that will likely suffer from the decision, though Johnson admitted that he is currently in talks with Webber about the issue.
