Review: & JULIET by G&T PRODUCTIONS at The Civic

& Juliet is a jukebox musical that premiered in Manchester in 2019 before opening in London’s West End later that year. Created by writer David West Read, with a score made up of pop hits by Max Martin, it reimagines Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet through a modern, feminist lens. The show later transferred to Broadway in 2022.

Review: MIKE AND VIRGINIA at Pumphouse

Realism, comedy and romance are all intertwined in the work of Kathryn Burnett who has collaborated with Award-winning screenwriter Nick Ward (Stickmen, Second Hand Wedding, Love Birds, Fresh Eggs, Outrageous Fortune) to create a romantic comedy about a romantic comedy. The script has layer after layer of a cleverly tangled web with unexpected twists that include belly-aching laughter.

Review: THE WORM at Bruce Mason Theatre and Herald Theatre

What did our critic think of THE WORM at Bruce MasonAlbert Latailakepa as the Worm forms a strong ensemble with Semu Filipo (the Old Worm) and Anapela Polatai'vao (the Blind Rat). These characters are well supported by Andrew Grainger and Yvette Parsons who play multiple roles. There is more than enough entertainment for children and adults throughout the journey with its imaginatively humorous encounters between the worms and underground critters.?

Review: THE CAMPERVAN at The Pumphouse, Takapuna, Auckland

The play boils society down to two sorts of people: the ones who are focused on the accumulation of more, and the self-serving leeches who survive off those who accumulate. The audience starts by laughing at the characters but leaves wondering if we were laughing at boldly painted versions of ourselves.  This play deserved its sell-out season. Look out for more of Burnett's work and book quickly!

BWW Review: SIX DEGREES OF SEPARATION at Auckland Theatre Company

It's funny, it's a social commentary, there's satire and pathos. There's human connection in spite of the social constructs dictating division and there's betrayal, examination of conscious as well as frivolity and superficiality. And the notion that we are more connected than we think was made popular by this play.
