The work of legendary photographer Robert Mapplethorpe has inspired the creation of Triptych (Eyes of One on Another), a theatrical oratorio that integrates and questions his often provocative and always compelling images. Triptych spans Mapplethorpe's entire body of work from the unique generational perspective of a diverse corps of visionary artists, working together for the first time.

Together, composer Bryce Dessner (guitarist for the universally celebrated band, The National), librettist Korde Arrington Tuttle, director Kaneza Schaal, designer Carlos Soto and music director Brad Wells in collaboration with Grammy-nominated vocal ensemble Roomful of Teeth and featuring poetry by Tuttle, Essex Hemphill and Patti Smith explore the ways Mapplethorpe's works question how we look at, touch, feel, hurt and love one another.
New York Live Arts (Live Arts) to present the world premiere of Kaneza Schaal's installation The Cotillion with the remount of JACK &, April 17-20 & 24-27, 2019, having commissioned the works as part of the Live Feed Residency Program. JACK & returns to NYC after its sold out run in BAM's Next Wave Festival. JACK & is a theatrical performance considering reentry into society after prison, featuring actor Cornell Alston with text and design from artist Christopher Myers. The Cotillion, a companion piece to JACK &, is a multi-channel audio and video installation in Live Arts lobby, and a post-show on-stage experience exploring ceremonial entrances into society, such as debutante balls and rituals that welcome ancestors back into communities.

On Friday, June 22, 2018, American classical guitar duo, Duo Noire (Thomas Flippin and Christopher Mallett), releases Night Triptych, an album of world premiere recordings of newly commissioned works by six highly accomplished and diverse women composers from around the world, on New Focus Recordings. Produced with GRAMMY-winning guitarist William Coulter, the album features Clarice Assad'sHocus Pocus, Courtney Bryan's Soli Deo Gloria, Golfam Khayam's Night Triptych, Mary Kouyoumdjian's Byblos, Gity Razaz's Four Haikus, and Gabriella Smith's Loop the Fractal Hold of Rain, all composed for Duo Noire. The album is the culmination of a project Duo Noire, the first two African-American guitar graduates of the Yale School of Music, launched in 2015 to make classical music more gender inclusive, and was supported with a grant from the Diller-Quaile School of Music.

Friday, April 20, day two of Live Ideas 2018: Radical Vision looks into the role of the press, what it means to be a journalist in an endangered liberal democracy, and what obligations the press has today. Opening the day will be visual artist Huiying B. Chan, who will read words by legendary activist Grace Lee Boggs, followed by author and journalist Moustafa Bayoumi's reading of works by Edward Said and a presentation of speeches by Muhammad Ali read by journalist Greg Tate. The readings will start at 4 pm. Admission is free.
