The new musical, A SCYTHE OF TIME is being presented as part of the New York Musical Theatre festival at the June Havoc Theatre (312 W 36th Street). A SCYTHE OF TIME is written by Alan Harris with music and lyrics by Mark Alan Swanson. It will be directed by David Alpert (IF/THEN), with musical direction by Ryan Cantwell (National Tour: Pippin, Finding Neverland). After spreading the craze in Cleveland and Los Angeles, where it won Best Musical at the Hollywood Fringe 2013, writers Alex Syiek and Andrew Leslie Cooper are proud to bring The Pokemusical to Feinstein's/54 Below. In this mile-a-minute (unofficial) Pokemon parody musical, see your favorite nostalgia-ridden characters from the cartoons and games take the stage like never before. The Pokemusical lovingly lampoons the famous franchise that is slowly taking over our lives. There's battling animals (sorry PETA), songs about evolution (sorry creationists), and everyone's favorite adorable yellow rat speaking in iambic pentameter (sorry Shakespeare). It's a story about climbing to the top, and the importance of the friends you meet along the way, and, speaking of friends, join us (or we'll cancel your Pokemon GO account)!

'When You've Got a Gift: 3 One-Act Musicals' will premiere at the Kraine Theater July 10 and 11.

Producers' Award.  The show, a meta-exploration of the theatre scene, watches as a struggling (and mostly terrible) theatre troupe attempts to put on a musical that maybe really should never have been written in the first place. The piece was also named 'Best Full-Length World-Premiere Musical' by StageSceneLA, making the 'Top Ten of the Fringe' list.

Great Lakes Theater (GLT) will commence its 2014-15 season with Shakespeare's battle of the sexes, The Merry Wives of Windsor, presented in rotating repertory with Boublil and Schonberg's Tony Award-winning musical epic, LES MISERABLES (September 26 - November 9, 2014). There's something wild on the loose, and a whole new kind of monster is coming to Hollywood. Official selection at the 2014 Hollywood Fringe Festival in Combined Artform "Pick of the Fringe," Giraffenstein will play two additional performances on Saturday, July 12 at 11:30pm and Saturday, July 19 at 11:55PM as part of The Encore! Producers' Extension Series.

This original one-act pop musical aims high and often hits its mark although it may not be the musical you think it's going to be. While it contains a fair amount of wry humor, don't expect the kind of silliness you found in The Pokemusical, the team's entry into last year's Fringe Festival. This twist on the Frankenstein story has a more sophisticated harmonic structure and a richer musical texture that gives it an added edge.
