Artistic director, Richard Mazda, and frequent collaborator, director Alberto Bonilla (Richard III, Merchant of Venice, Raft of Medusa) have teamed up again for The Secret Theatre's upcoming production of King Lear.
The Secret Theatre is celebrating ten years of existence with a great season packed with great shows and productions. Not too shabby for an organization that started in 2005 with borrowed spaces, domestic track lighting and Home Depot dimmers!
Fresh from receiving six New York Innovative Theatre nominations for A Chorus Line the team of Richard Mazda [A Chorus Line, Richard III] and Alberto Bonilla [To Protect The Poets, Richard III] follow their wildly successful award winning Richard III with a production of The Merchant or Venice. This is one of two Shakespeare productions this coming season at The Secret with the team of Mazda/Bonilla with a production of King Lear featuring beloved character actor Austin Pendleton going up in March 2017.

Core Creative Productions (CCP) -- the company that produced Chokehold, the Outstanding Overall Production of a New Play at the 2015 Planet Connections Festivity - returns to the festival this year with Drones, a new play written and directed by Anthony P. Pennino. This production is the world premiere of the play. Adapted from an incident in The Iliad, the play imagines an alternative reality where the war between Greece and Troy never ended; the modern technology of warfare (satellites, air strikes, unmanned drones, engineered pathogens) blends into the mythic landscape of Homer's poem.
