Robert ('Bob') Ullman (left), the legendary theatre press agent, whose career included Ethel Merman and Mary Martin: Together on Broadway, A Chorus Line (from workshop to Public Theater to Broadway), Alfred Lunt and Lynn Fontanne in The Visit, Lauren Bacall in Cactus Flower, The Dining Room, Driving Miss Daisy, Sunday in the Park with George, and over 150 additional Broadway and off-Broadway plays and musicals, died on July 31, 2019 in Bayshore, Long Island, New York. He was 97. The cause of death was cardiac arrest. Bob's death was announced by Rev. Joshua Ellis, a long-time Ullman friend, a former Broadway press agent, and now, an Interspiritual minister.
The Broadway at Birdland concert series presented singer/pianist Steve Ross in “Songs I Love” last night. Steve looked back at his long career and revisited songs from his first recording (1979) and his more recent efforts celebrating Alan Jay Lerner, Noel Coward and Stephen Sondheim. KT Sullivan who is currently appearing with Steve at the Irish Repertory Theatre in LOVE, NOEL: The Songs and Letters of Noel Coward (written and devised by Barry Day) joined Steve for a few songs.
Cygnet's 2019 Summer Benefit promises to be legendary. For two nights only, the beloved Lerner and Loewe's musical Camelot comes to Cygnet Theatre for a staged concert reading. Proceeds benefit Cygnet Theatre's Artist Advocate program, which provides the financial support needed to hire the most talented artists and to pay them a meaningful wage. With book and lyrics by Alan Jay Lerner, music by Frederick Loewe, direction by Sean Murray and musical direction by Terry O'Donnell, the benefit takes place August 12 and 13.

Few people seem to be familiar with Lerner & Loewe's Paint Your Wagon. Those who are usually mention the 1969 film of the same title, starring Lee Marvin and Clint Eastwood, known for being a ridiculously miscast and embarrassingly terrible flop. The musical, which originally appeared on Broadway in 1951, is similarly messy, and has gone pretty much unproduced for decades. Fortunately, however, playwright Jon Marans has redrafted the book, top-to-bottom, enhancing both the story line and its characters, and the result is a shiny-new masterpiece with new orchestrations and new dance and vocal arrangements. It is now an entirely enjoyable musical, complex in its structure, with an interesting setting, compelling plot, nuanced layers, appropriate social commentary, and characters...

Nederlander Presentations, Inc., has just announced that Shereen Ahmed will be Eliza Doolittle and Laird Mackintosh will be Henry Higgins in the upcoming North American tour of Lincoln Center Theater's critically-acclaimed production of Lerner & Loewe's MY FAIR LADY. Directed by Bartlett Sher, the tour will tech and launch in Syracuse, NY before officially opening at The Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C. Official Press Opening is Thursday, December 19.

More than 450 guests were starstruck at Goodman Theatre's May 18 Spring Gala, headlined by Broadway star and Tony Award nominee Megan Hilty. The black-tie event, held at the Fairmont Chicago, raised more than $800,000 to support the theater's Education and Community Engagement programs. The gala was co-chaired by Teri and Doug Brown and Carole Wood and Carl Jenkins. The Goodman's "Starstruck" Spring Gala was presented by The Women's Board.
