The Met has announced the Week 15 schedule for its Nightly Met Opera Streams, a free series of encore Live in HD presentations streamed on the company website during the coronavirus closure. Highlights include the Met's classic 1991 telecast of Donizetti's L'Elisir d'Amore, with Kathleen Battle and Luciano Pavarotti, John Adams's Doctor Atomic starring Gerald Finley, and Massenet's Manon, with Lisette Oropesa in the title role.

The Chamber Music Society of Detroit will present the multi award-winning young Vera Quartet with pianist Meng-Chieh Liu in three Detroit area concerts: 7:30 PM Friday, March 13 at the Grosse Pointe War Memorial, Saturday, March 14 at Canton's Village Theater at Cherry Hills, and 3 PM Sunday, March 15 at Oakland University's Varner Recital Hall in Rochester Hills. The program includes one of Beethoven's early string quartets, the Quartet in C minor, Op. 18, No. 4; String Quartet No. 4 ('Silent Temple') by University of Michigan composer Bright Sheng; and Franck's Piano Quintet in F minor.

BWW Review: Gustavo Dudamel Leads DAS LIED with the NY Philharmonic at Geffen Hall

Maestro Gustavo Dudamel, who usually leads the LA Philharmonic, took a busman's holiday to NY for a brace of performances with his orchestra's East Coast counterpart, the New York Philharmonic. His reputation as a master on the podium is not overrated: I can't think of a more understated, yet fully controlled, performance than the one I heard Friday night at Lincoln Center's David Geffen Hall, with Schubert and, especially, Mahler on the bill.

Alan Gilbert Is Named MD Of Royal Swedish Opera

Alan Gilbert has been named as Music Director of the Royal Swedish Opera, where he looks forward to launching his tenure in spring 2021. He will combine the role with his position as Chief Conductor of Hamburg's NDR Elbphilharmonie Orchestra, which he has held since September 2019, after eight years as Music Director of the New York Philharmonic.
