Prior to the final concert of its 2021-2022 season, Boston Art Song Society has announced the first world premiere in its seven year history.

Today’s subject Michael John LaChuisa is currently living his theatre life as the composer for the upcoming production of Our Town at Shakespeare Theatre Company. The production runs May 12th through June 11th in STC’s Sidney Harman Hall and features (wait for it) a FULL cast of DC performers.

The Juilliard School will hold its 117th commencement ceremony on May 20, 2022, at 10:30am. The ceremony will be held outdoors on the Lincoln Center campus in Damrosch Park, presided over by Juilliard President Damian Woetzel. It will also be livestreamed at juilliard.edu for those unable to attend in person.

The William Bolcom Tribute Concert, presented in partnership between Pro Musica of Detroit and The Detroit Institute of Arts, features a stellar cast of musicians, including one of Mr. Bolcom's closest musical collaborators - award-winning recording artist, pianist, and composer Marc-André Hamelin.

The Bard Music Festival returns for its 32nd season this August, with an intensive two-week exploration of “Rachmaninoff and His World.” In twelve themed concert programs, Bard examines Sergei Rachmaninoff (1873–1943), perhaps the last great exponent of Russian Romanticism, who nevertheless embodied many contradictions.

The Kendall Square Orchestra is helping improve STEM literacy for girls with a night of music and storytelling at Symphony Hall on May 23rd at 7:30 PM. Symphony for Science will benefit the Science Club for Girls, which highlights the critical importance of mentorship and STEM literacy for girls from underrepresented communities. Led by music director Kristo Kondakçi, K2O will perform works by Joan Tower, Alexander Borodin, Florence Price and Gustav Holst.

Mezzo-soprano Joyce DiDonato brings her latest innovative project to Stern Auditorium / Perelman Stage on Saturday, April 23 at 8:00 p.m. Titled EDEN, the program explores our individual connection to nature and its impact on our world and features Ms. DiDonato’s frequent collaborators Maxim Emelyanychev leading Italian chamber orchestra Il Pomo d’Oro. Fusing music, movement, and theater, the program includes works spanning from the 17th to the 21st century by Handel, Gluck, Wagner, Mahler, Ives, and Copland, as well as the New York premiere of Academy Award-winning composer Rachel Portman’s The First Morning of the World, commissioned specifically for this project.

American Lyric Theater (ALT) announced today InsightALT: Opera in Eden, a performance featuring three new one-act operas on themes of temptation developed by Resident Artists in the company’s nationally acclaimed Composer Librettist Development Program. ALT’s current Resident Artists (Composers Jasmine Barnes, Johanny Navarro, and Alex Weiser; and Librettists Joshua Banbury, Deborah D.E.E.P. Mouton, and Marcus Yi) were selected from over 200 applicants to join the CLDP this season. Opera in Eden, which is the culminating event of the first year of these artists’ residency, will take place at National Sawdust in Brooklyn on Tuesday, May 17th, 2022 at 7:00pm.

This May, the YIVO Institute for Jewish Research is hosting Continuing Evolution: Yiddish Folksong Today, a music festival featuring four concerts which cross stylistic boundaries between classical music and folk performance. The festival features the premiere of more than twelve newly commissioned classical works alongside a wealth of lesser-known compositions from YIVO's archival collections, and performances by over thirty musical artists.

Opus Two, violin-piano duo, will perform at the Crocker Museum of Art on Sunday, April 10, 2022 at 3pm.  The program, inspired from art on view at the Museum, Diverse Voices: Distinctive Works for Violin and Piano, will include works by Amy Beach, George Walker, Astor Piazzolla, Meira Washauer and William Grant Still.

The Kent State University School of Music returns to Severance Music Center on Monday, May 2 at 7 p.m. featuring nearly 300 students from across the university performing a rich lineup of genres and styles from classical and jazz to gospel and world music.
