Jujamcyn Theaters and True Colors Theatre Company (Kenny Leon, Co-Founding Artistic Director) have announced that Thembisile Gxuluwe from West Mifflin Area High School near Pittsburgh has won first place at the 5th Annual August Wilson Monologue Competition held on Monday, May 6th at at the August Wilson Theatre (245 West 52nd Street). Pablo Lopez from Los Angeles was the runner-up, and an honorable mention went to Branndin Phillips-Laramorefrom Chicago. The event, which was free and open to the public, featured high school students from Atlanta, Boston, Chicago, Los Angeles, New York, Pittsburgh and Seattle performing monologues by the late, legendary American playwright.

Hollywood's legendary El Capitan Theatre is thrilled to present Disney's fantastical adventure "Oz The Great and Powerful" in spectacular Disney Digital 3D and Dolby Atmos, it was announced today by Lylle Breier, Senior Vice President of Worldwide Special Events for Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures. "Oz The Great and Powerful" will have a special advance screening for the public, with prizes, on Thursday, March 7 at 8:30 pm (doors open at 8 pm); the El Capitan engagement of "Oz The Great and Powerful" is through April 30. The film, directed by Sam Raimi, imagines the origins of L. Frank Baum's beloved wizard character. El Capitan guests will also get to see an exclusive display of costumes from the movie.

Shakespeare & Company's groundbreaking Shakespeare in the Courts program, which leads adjudicated young people in an exploration of Shakespeare's plays, is celebrating its 13th year. The program, which runs in both North Adams and Pittsfield, was launched in 2001 with funding from the National Endowment for the Arts, and is generously supported this year by Massachusetts Cultural Council's YouthReach Initiative; Berkshire Life, A Guardian Company; Berkshire County District Attorney's Office; The Cultural Council of Northern Berkshire; and the Charles H. Although she courageously stands up to bullies and delights in teaching her friends to spell backwards, Lilly still needs to learn important lessons about family, friendship and forgiveness. Through clever dialogue, fast-paced scenes, realistic characters, and yes, even cheese, the award-winning playwright Kevin Kling creates an entertaining and insightful tale.
