Peterborough Players Presents Their 86th Year Of Professional Theatre

A graceful examination of a collision of cultures. A comedy about the hilarious eccentricities of Midwestern family life. A big Broadway musical where lonely hearts fall in love. A play about an artist's responsibility for his art with some of the most beautiful music in the world. After 86 years, the 2019 season at the Peterborough Players promises to continue their tradition of producing delightful, surprising, thought-provoking professional theatre at the highest level. In addition, this year boasts an entire season of American playwrights.

Bryony Jarmin-Pinto Releases SUN KISSED on Tru Thoughts

Out today, “Sun Kissed” is the latest single from London-based vocalist and songwriter, Bryony Jarman-Pinto. Taken from her forthcoming debut album Cage and Aviary (out August 16 on Tru Thoughts), this follows lead tracks “As I've Heard” and “Saffron Yellow”, which received upfront support from the likes of Lauren Laverne (BBC 6Music), Jamz Supernova (BBC 1Xtra) and Robert Elms (BBC Radio London).

Based on Thornton Wilder's 1954 play titled The Matchmaker, Hello, Dolly! follows famed New York City matchmaker Dolly Gallagher Levi as receives her toughest challenge yet. She must travel to Yonkers to find a suitable match for the miserly 'well-known unmarried half-a-millionaire' Horace Vandergelder. She successfully matches many others in the city, including Horace's niece and his two young clerks, but everything seems to go wrong when it comes to matching Horace.

BWW Review: EVERYTHING IS ILLUMINATED at Ensemble Theatre Company

Ensemble's production features many of the interesting aspects of this search for identity: a grumpy grandpa with a dark secret; an old Ukrainian woman who's mind has been warped by trauma and isolation; an underdog translator with a tenuous mastery of English; and an emotionally clumsy college kid who mistakes the trauma of his family for personal depth. But the adaptation from novel to stage is clunky, clouding an otherwise dramatic origin story.
