What did our critic think of THE BAND'S VISIT at The Kennedy Center?

Cotuit Center for the Arts and Covering New England are proud to present the Buoys of Summer live in concert on the evenings of Wednesday, July 20, 2022 and Wednesday, August 17, 2022. Both performances will take place at 7:30pm in our new outdoor performance space.

Tresor (Treasure) is Gwenno Saunders’ third full length solo album and the second almost entirely in Cornish (Kernewek). Written in St. Ives, Cornwall, just prior to the Covid lockdowns of 2020 and completed at home in Cardiff during the pandemic along with her co-producer and musical collaborator, Rhys Edwards.

Comedian and actress Nikki Glaser, host and executive producer of hit Max Original reality dating series FBOY Island, showcases her shockingly honest style of comedy in her first hour-long HBO comedy special, NIKKI GLASER: GOOD CLEAN FILTH. The special was filmed late last year at the Paramount Theater in Denver, Colorado.

SOFI TUKKER have shared a lyric video for “Summer in New York' that follows them around the streets of NYC living out the idyllic day they imagined in the song. Their guided video tour of the city brings the lyrics to life including stops at Sophie’s beloved Miss Favela in Brooklyn where Brazilian music and food reign.

Jones looking for the perfect advice to lead her class, a plucky pigeon that desperately wants to drive a school bus (in spite of his very short legs), an elf with a dream, or a spider determined to save the life of a friend; the “can-do” spirit that permeates these plays reinforces the necessary fortitude required for our parents and children as we work our way past the challenges of the last two years.

It's been over a century since John Millington Synge's Irish play The Playboy of the Western World was first performed, and almost 40 years since Mustapha Matura transported the story to Trinidad in the original version of Playboy of the West Indies. Throughout the decades, some shows have stood the test of time while newer productions test their strength to stand among the best. And sometimes, you see a new show about an old tale that is a sight for sore eyes. In DCPA's current prodution of Quixote Nuevo, audiences are delighted to a family tale with some twists and turns that would leave even Miguel de Cervantes in stitches.

Broadway Sacramento is closing out their 2022 Broadway on Tour season with the first national tour of Tootsie.  Based on the 1982 film of the same name, Tootsie features music and lyrics by David Yazbek (The Band’s Visit, Dirty Rotten Scoundrels) and a Tony Award-winning book by Robert Horn.  Rolling Stone called it “musical comedy heaven” and they’re not wrong.   Easily the funniest show of the season, Tootsie is full of one-liners, sarcastic wit, and self-deprecating humor.
