The Old Globe today announced that its 2018-2019 Season will kick off with the world premiere of the new musical Heart of Rock and Roll, inspired by the songs of Huey Lewis and the News, featuring a book by Jonathan Abrams and story by Tyler Mitchell and Jonathan Abrams. It will be directed by Gordon Greenberg with choreography by Lorin Latarro and music supervision, arrangements, and orchestrations by Brian Usifer. Heart of Rock and Roll will bepresented by special arrangement with Tyler Mitchell, W. Leo Kiely, Bill Kiely, Whitney Kiely Moehle, and Tamar Climan. Binder Casting, a subsidiary of Emmy Award-winning RWS Entertainment Group (RWS), today announced the appointment of three new hires set to lead the newly formed commercial and film casting divisions. The movie 'The Greatest Showman,' starring Hugh Jackman as legendary entertainer P.T. Barnum, opened nationwide on Dec. 20, 2017. But the Connecticut premier of that film opened with great celebration on Dec. 19, 2017 for a select group of individuals that were invited by the Barnum Museum. The Barnum Museum director, Kathleen Maher, wanted to increase the visibility of the museum via the film in an effort to help the cash-strapped and structurally compromised historic landmark raise $55 million to repair damage and upgrade the facility. The Ambassador Theatre Group is to produce a brand new stage musical based on the life of the legendary Frank Sinatra, in partnership with Stewart Till and Frank Sinatra Enterprises. The show, which is planned to open in 2018, will feature a number of timeless hit songs from Sinatra's incredible catalogue of over 1400 tracks recorded during his illustrious career. Script development for the Frank Sinatra musical is planned to start shortly.
