BIO

Andrea Aptecker is a writer and teacher in Boston, Massachusetts. Her screenplay (There are Monsters) won Best Thriller at the 2026 Melbourne International Screenplay Awards, in addition to being named a Finalist in the 2026 Big Apple Film Festival and Screenplay Competition, Finalist in the Berlin International Screenwriting Festival 2026, Semi-Finalist Chicago Script Awards, Quarter-Finalist in the Los Angeles International Screenplay Awards 2026, and Quarter-Finalist in the Pitch Now Screenplay Competition 2026. In 2025 her play (There are Monsters) was workshopped at the Durango, Colorado PlayFest, and she attended the Rocaberti Writers’ Retreat in Spain on scholarship. She’s a 2025 Stowe Story Labs Fellowship Semi-Finalist, a Semi-Finalist in the Dramatists Guild Foundation National Fellowship Program, a Finalist in the Gary Garrison Playwriting Award for 10-minute plays, and Semi-Finalist in the Garry Marshall Theater New Works Festival. Andrea received the Audience Favorite Prize in the Hear Me Out Monologue Competition. Her full-length ghost mystery play (Unrequited) which one reviewer called, “lyrical, witty, seductive and dark, and always spellbinding,” is available with Next Stage Press. Andrea attended the Kennedy Center Playwriting Intensive in 2021. She’s a member of the Dramatists Guild of America. Andrea Aptecker | New Play Exchange
