Penobscot Theatre Company Presents MATILDA THE MUSICAL


Penobscot Theatre Company, the northeastern-most professional, regional theatre in the country, is proud to announce its upcoming holiday production of Matilda the Musical. Based on the book by Roald Dahl, Matilda tells the story of an imaginative young girl who emerges victorious in the face of adversity. Playing from December 5-29 at the historic Bangor Opera House, Matilda is sure to delight and inspire audiences.

The Fabulous Fifties Are In Full Swing At Penobscot Theatre


Penobscot Theatre Company's Dramatic Academy will stage two 1950s-era shows to round out a season of successful youth programming.  REBEL WITHOUT A CAUSE, made famous by the 1955 film starring legendary Hollywood bad boy James Dean, will play August 15, 16, and 17 at 7pm, and August 18 at 3pm. THE MAN FROM PLANET 52, a campy love letter to B-movies, will be performed on August 15, 16, and 17 at 4pm and on August 18 at 11am.  The performances will be at the historic Bangor Opera House, 131 Main Street, Bangor.

BYE, BYE, BIRDIE Is Coming To The Bangor Opera House


Penobscot Theatre Company's Dramatic Academy will stage the rock and roll classic, BYE BYE BIRDIE, July 18 at 7 pm, July 19 at 7pm, July 20 at 2pm and 7pm, and July 21 at 3pm. All four performances will be at the historic Bangor Opera House, 131 Main Street, Bangor.

TRANSFORMER TALES: STORIES OF THE DAWNLAND at Penobscot Theatre Company


Penobscot Theatre Company is proud to present Transformer Tales: Stories of the Dawnland, a new play about Gluskape, the benevolent culture hero of the Wabanaki tribes, who taught the people the arts of civilization and protected them from danger. This original work is the culmination of a yearlong collaboration among the theatre, Penobscot elders and playwrights, native scholars, and educators from Indian Island. It will be performed by young people aged 4-19, engaged in the theatre's intensive summer camp program: August 11 at 6:00 pm at the Indian Island School; August 12-13 at 7:00 pm at the Bangor Opera House, 131 Main Street, Bangor; and August 14 at 3:00 pm at Blackwoods Amphitheater in Acadia National Park, as part of the park's Centennial Celebration. 

Penobscot Theatre Company's Dramatic Academy to Present Two Takes on Shakespeare's 'MUCH ADO'


Penobscot Theatre Company's Dramatic Academy is delighted to present Much Ado About Nothing and A Great Big Deal Over Nothing at the historic Bangor Opera House, August 14-16. 'We're excited to produce one of Shakespeare's comedic classics,' said Director of Education Amy Roeder. 'To add to the fun, we're also producing a modern retelling of the story for our younger actors and audience members, A Great Big Deal Over Nothing!'

The second session of Penobscot Theatre Company's Dramatic Academy Summer culminates August 16-18 with a series of productions inspired by classic Greek myths:

Penobscot Theatre Company's Dramatic Academy to Present NARNIA, 2/21-22


NARNIA, based on the beloved classic by C.S. Lewis, The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, will transport audiences February 21-22 at the Bangor Opera House. Part of Penobscot Theatre Company's Dramatic Academy series, the production will feature 27 local students ages 4 - 13, directed by teaching artist Ben Layman. Throughout the academic year, Dramatic Academy offers three sessions of youth classes, each culminating in a final performance on the company's mainstage. For the 2013-2014 season, each production is an adaptation of a piece of children's literature

ROMEO & JULIET, WILL & WHIMSEY & More to Open Next Week at Penobscot Theatre


Penobscot Theatre's Dramatic Academy students will perform a variety of plays they have developed while also attending classes and workshops. Over forty students have studied acting, voice, stage combat, dance, and clowning in order to share their new experiences with the community in a performance setting.
