Julian Sands BIO

Julian Sands is an English actor known for his work on stage, film, and television. He was born on January 4, 1958, in Otley, West Riding of Yorkshire, England. Sands attended the Central School of Speech and Drama in London and began his acting career in the late 1970s.
Sands' early stage work includes performances in productions of "A Midsummer Night's Dream" and "The Seagull." He made his Broadway debut in 1984 in the play "Preludes," which was followed by a role in the 1985 production of "Breaking the Code." Sands also appeared in the 1995 Broadway revival of "The Tempest," playing the role of Ferdinand.
In addition to his stage work, Sands has appeared in numerous films throughout his career. He gained recognition for his role in the 1985 film "A Room with a View," which earned him a nomination for a BAFTA Award for Best Supporting Actor. Sands went on to appear in films such as "Warlock," "Boxing Helena," and "Leaving Las Vegas."
Sands has also had a successful television career, appearing in shows such as "Smallville," "24," and "Dexter." He played the role of Jor-El, Superman's biological father, in the television series "Superman: The Animated Series" and "Justice League Unlimited."
In addition to his acting work, Sands has also lent his voice to numerous video games and audiobooks. He provided the voice for the character of Aric Jorgan in the video game "Star Wars: The Old Republic" and narrated the audiobook for the novel "The Da Vinci Code" by Dan Brown.
Sands' most recent work includes a role in the 2020 film "The Painted Bird," which premiered at the Venice Film Festival. He also appeared in the television series "What/If" in 2019.
Throughout his career, Sands has received critical acclaim for his work on stage, film, and television. He has been nominated for several awards, including a Tony Award for his role in "The Changing Room" and a Screen Actors Guild Award for his performance in "The Killing Fields."
Offstage, Sands is known for his philanthropic work. He is a supporter of the charity WaterAid, which works to provide clean water and sanitation to people in developing countries. Sands has also been involved with the charity HealthRight International, which provides medical care to marginalized communities around the world.

Mike Oldfield's “The Killing Fields” Soundtrack & DVD Limited Edition Deluxe Box Set is now available for pre-order. “The Killing Fields” is a 1984 British biographical drama film about the Khmer Rouge regime in Cambodia, which is based on the experiences of two journalists: Cambodian Dith Pran and American Sydney Schanberg. It was directed by Roland Joffé and produced by David Puttnam for his company Goldcrest Films. Sam Waterston stars as Schanberg, Haing S. Ngor as Pran, Julian Sands as Jon Swain, and John Malkovich as Al Rockoff. The adaptation for the screen was written by Bruce Robinson; the musical score was written by Mike Oldfield and orchestrated by David Bedford.

PLENTY, Starring Rachel Weisz, Extends Again at The Public


The Public Theater has announced a final extension today for the first major New York revival of PLENTY, written by David Hare. Directed by five-time Tony Award nominee David Leveaux, the show began performances on Tuesday, November 4 and was originally extended through Sunday, November 20. It will now run through Thursday, December 1, with an official press opening Sunday, October 23.
