Main Street Theater is offering a riveting new play to Houston audiences: Mother of the Maid by Jane Anderson. The production opens Saturday night, February 5 at 7:30pm and runs through February 27 at MST – Rice Village, 2540 Times Blvd.

MST’s MainStage season will open with the wildly whimsical and equally intelligent Darwin in Malibu by Crispin Whittell, directed by Udden. It’s a meeting of the minds when Charles Darwin, Thomas Huxley, and the Bishop of Oxford, Samuel Wilberforce, meet on the beach in Malibu a century after their deaths!

Starting May 20, Blue Metropolis International Literary Festival will launch 6 literary walking tours to get residents and visitors out into the spring weather. Each self-guided walking tour comes with a podcast made up of original texts written especially for the tour; some read by the author, others narrated by professional actors.

Main Street Theater (MST)'s 45th Season will include six (6) productions on its MainStage and seven (7) at its Theater for Youth for 2020-2021.

The Ensemble Company, the repertory company in residence at Penguin Point Productions located in the Oviedo Mall, will continue its 2020 season with the Central Florida premiere of Jane Anderson's Mother of the Maid.

Jeff Parry was raised in Ottawa, ON. His love of music began when he was 9 years old when he fell in love with The Beatles. He has always had a passion for. music, so after University, he moved out west to try to raise money to open a record store in Ottawa. He wound up staying in Alberta and rather than open a record store, in 1978, he started a concert promotion business, producing tribute shows. That evolved into becoming an agent and ultimately, a theatrical producer. I had the chance to speak with Parry on the eve of the Montreal run of the award winning musical, WE WILL ROCK YOU, a jukebox musical based on the songs of British rock band Queen with a book by Ben Elton, which lands in Montreal on February 10.

Jason O'Neill was born in Belfast, Northern Ireland. He became passionate about Irish dancing, Irish culture and music as a young boy and seeing RIVERDANCE changed his life. It became his goal to become a professional Irish dancer and perform in RIVERDANCE, which he has now done for 10 years. I had the chance to speak with O'Neill prior to his arrival in Montreal where the RIVERDANCE 25th ANNIVERSARY tour will play a limited engagement at Salle Wilfred-Pelletier, Place des Arts, January 10-12, 2020.

Pacific Theatre's 2019-2020 season opens with the Canadian premiere of Mother of the Maid, Jane Anderson's retelling of Joan of Arc's journey to the battlefields of France and her mother Isabelle's quest to follow her.

Rick begins his solo performance breaking the fourth wall as he lets the audience know that they are about to see him perform one hundred different characters in just over two hours.

Alison Whitehurst was born in Sugar Land, Texas. The daughter of a professional pianist, she was exposed to music at a very early age, tagging along and watching her father play gigs from backstage. She would often sit and experiment with him at the piano and played herself for nine years. After her parents divorce, Whitehurst transferred to a new middle school. Her mother recommended she sign up for a theatre class to help her make friends. She was cast in her first musical in eighth grade, FIDDLER ON THE ROOF, and thought to herself, 'wait a second! I'm going to sing AND do this fun new theatre thing at the same time?!' She continued on through high school and never looked back, earning a BFA in Theatre Performance from Texas Christian University. Whitehurst is currently on tour as Cynthia Weil in BEAUTIFUL - THE CAROLE KING MUSICAL. I had the chance to chat with her just prior to the tour's stop in Montreal.

Musicals at Richter (MAR), celebrating its 34th season as the longest-running outdoor theater in Connecticut, kicks off the summer with 'Legally Blonde,' the effervescent and wildly upbeat musical based on the popular 2001 film comedy starring Reese Witherspoon. Staged on the grounds of the Richter Arts Center in Danbury, performances take place outdoors under the stars Friday through Sunday evenings at 8:00 p.m., with additional specially discounted performances on Thursday, July 5 and 12. There is no show on Friday, July 13.
