The Marie-Josée Kravis Composer-in-Residence Esa-Pekka Salonen will conduct the New York Philharmonic in the U.S. Premiere of Tansy Davies's Forest, the New York Premiere of Stravinsky's recently rediscovered Funeral Song; and Richard Strauss's Also sprach Zarathustra.

The 33rd season of the New York Philharmonic Ensembles series, chamber concerts showcasing Musicians from the Orchestra performing classical masterpieces and modern compositions in an intimate setting, will begin on Sunday, October 9, 2016, at Merkin Concert Hall.

Music Director Alan Gilbert will conduct the New York Philharmonic in an all-Mozart program: his Divertimento in D major, K.136/125a; Horn Concerto No. 2, with Principal Horn Philip Myers; and Serenade for 13 Winds, Gran partita. The concerts take place tonight, November 4, 2015, at 7:30 p.m.; Thursday, November 5 at 7:30 p.m.; Friday, November 6 at 8:00 p.m.; and Saturday, November 7 at 8:00 p.m.

Jaap van Zweden will return to the New York Philharmonic to conduct Mozart's Piano Concerto No. 23, with Artist-in-Association Inon Barnatan as soloist; Britten's Sinfonia da Requiem; and Beethoven's Symphony No. 5. The performances take place tonight, October 29, 2015, at 7:30 p.m.; Friday, October 30 at 2:00 p.m.; and Saturday, October 31 at 8:00 p.m. 

This weekend found the New York Philharmonic in Ann Arbor, Michigan, for the inaugural performance residency of its five-year partnership with the University Musical Society of the University of Michigan, in conjunction with the University of Michigan School of Music, Theatre & Dance. Alan Gilbert led the Orchestra in works by Beethoven, Magnus Lindberg, Esa-Pekka Salonen, and Richard Strauss; David Newman led the score to On the Waterfrontas the complete film was screened; Philharmonic musicians led master classes; and Alan Gilbert conducted a thousand — Philharmonic brass plus the Michigan Marching Band, Michigan Alumni Band, and UMS Choral Union — at the Michigan Homecoming football game halftime show. The final recording and complete box set of The Nielsen Project - the New York Philharmonic's acclaimed multi-season survey of the six symphonies and three concertos by Danish composer Carl Nielsen (1865-1931) - will be released today, June 9, 2015, coinciding with the 150th anniversary of the composer's birth.

The final recording features Nielsen's complete concertos: the Flute Concerto with Principal Flute Robert Langevin, Clarinet Concerto with Principal Clarinet Anthony McGill, and Violin Concerto with Danish violinist Nikolaj Znaider.

Long Yu will make his New York Philharmonic debut conducting Tchaikovsky's Violin Concerto, with Maxim Vengerov as soloist - replacing Principal Horn Philip Myers, previously scheduled to perform Mozart's Horn Concerto No. 4, who has withdrawn due to shoulder surgery - and Shostakovich's Symphony No. 5, Thursday, January 22, 2015, at 7:30 p.m.; Friday, January 23 at 8:00 p.m.; and Saturday, January 24 at 8:00 p.m.

This week, Mr. van Zweden will lead the Orchestra in Korngold's Violin Concerto, with Hilary Hahn as soloist; Beethoven's Symphony No. 7; and J. Wagenaar's Cyrano de Bergerac Overture, marking the Philharmonic's first time performing the work, tonight, November 26, 2014, at 7:30 p.m.; Friday, November 28 at 8:00 p.m.; and Saturday, November 29 at 8:00 p.m.

The inaugural class of the Shanghai Orchestra Academy (SOA) -- founded by the New York Philharmonic, Shanghai Symphony Orchestra, and Shanghai Conservatory of Music -- begins studies with two weeks of coaching and master classes in Shanghai by nine New York Philharmonic musicians, September 4-12.

The March broadcasts of The New York Philharmonic This Week - the weekly radio series of concerts and recordings by the New York Philharmonic, hosted by Alec Baldwin - begin with Music Director Alan Gilbert leading the Philharmonic in the World Premiere of The Marie-Josee Kravis Composer-in-Residence Christopher Rouse's Prospero's Rooms; Bernstein's Serenade (after Plato's "Symposium"), with Joshua Bell as soloist; and Ives's Symphony No. 4 with representatives of the New York Choral Consortium. The following week Alan Gilbert and Assistant Conductor Case Scaglione will lead the Philharmonic in a performance of Stravinsky's Ragtime for 11 Instruments; Shostakovich's Tahiti Trot; Copland's Clarinet Concerto featuring Associate Principal Clarinet Marc Nuccio; and Wynton Marsalis's Swing Symphony (Symphony No. 3) featuring the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra.

The New York Philharmonic Very Young People's Concerts (VYPCs), for children ages 3 to 6, continue Sunday, January 5, 2014, at 12:30 and 3:00 p.m. and Monday, January 6 at 10:30 a.m. at Merkin Concert Hall, 129 West 67th Street.
