The Orange Tree Theatre today announces that it has appointed Tom Littler as the company's new Artistic Director. Currently Artistic Director and Executive Producer of the West End's Jermyn Street Theatre, Littler will succeed Paul Miller who is stepping down in December 2022 after more than eight years in post.

This November, Jermyn Street Theatre continues its association with the work of Samuel Beckett with the 45th anniversary staging of his play Footfalls and the 40th of Rockaby.

UA Talks X Kansis is an 'Artist café and discussion club open to all', an event organized by Urban Apa. This time it was located at Vallila's Kansallisteatteri, Finnish National Theatre. I took part as an audience member (later as a questioner) and now want to share some bits of the evening's discussions on art, theatre, collective and institutions - the fears and dreams of them.

Family Tree takes as its inspiration the story of Henrietta Lacks, an African American woman, whose cells were harvested and cultivated without her consent after her death from cervical cancer in the 1950s. The so-called HeLa cells have been vital to studying disease and have even contributed to the development of the COVID-19 vaccines. 

The full cast is today announced for I Wish My Life Were Like A Musical, the West End Wilma Award-winning musical revue charting the highs and lows of life as a musical theatre performer. 

At the end of the evening, sitting in the National Theatre, I was impressed with the care the cast and creative team took to present this story onstage. It's not your standard political drama, and it's not your standard inspirational porn about a person with a disability either. It's a compelling story about a complex man - complex like all of us. As a person who stutters, I may have identified with Bertie's struggles in a more personal way than many theatergoers and appreciated that his voice - his true voice - could be heard and not stifled. However, at the end of the day, don't we all just want to be heard and seen and valued for who we are?

John Haidar directs Tom Mothersdale as Shakespeare's most notorious and complex villain, Richard III. This inventive new staging is a co-production between Headlong, Alexandra Palace and Bristol Old Vic, with Royal & Derngate Northampton and Oxford Playhouse.

Following critical acclaim, and a sold-out run at the Young Vic, producers Sonia Friedman Productions, Tom Kirdahy and Hunter Arnold are delighted to announce the full cast for the West End transfer of Joe Murphy and Joe Robertson's The Jungle, a National Theatre and Young Vic co-production with Good Chance Theatre,directed by Stephen Daldry and Justin Martin. The production is set in Europe's largest unofficial refugee camp, the Calais Jungle, which in 2015, became a temporary home for more than 10,000 people.  Previewing from 16 June, with World Refugee Day on 20 June, The Jungle will have an Opening Night on 5 July at the Playhouse Theatre, with rehearsal photography released today. Matthew Warchus directs Charles Dickens' timeless classic A Christmas Carol in a joyous new adaptation by Jack Thorne, starring Rhys Ifans as Ebenezer Scrooge, opening at The Old Vic on 29 November with previews from 20 November.

Award winning actor Dickie Beau is a man of a thousand faces, but one voice. The lip synch maestro brought Dickie Beauo: Re-Member Me to Latitude Festival, following an extended run at the Almeida. Combining recordings of Hamlet with quotes and stories from actors and creatives, it's a Hamlet mixtape.

Nuffield Southampton Theatres, Curve and Lyric Hammersmith today announce that, following a successful UK tour, their production of Roald Dahl's Fantastic Mr Fox will return for a second run at Lyric Hammersmith this summer.  The production, adapted for the stage by Sam Holcroft, directed by Maria Aberg with original music by Arthur Darvill, runs at the Lyric Hammersmith from 26 July to 20 August, after it completes its national tour.

The National Theatre has today announced that Lizzy Watts will take the title role of Hedda Gabler which, following a sold-out run at the National Theatre earlier this year, begins a UK tour on 2 October.  Beginning at Theatre Royal Plymouth, the tour will journey across the UK to Edinburgh, Leicester, Salford, Norwich, Hull, Aberdeen, Northampton, Glasgow, Wolverhampton, Woking, Nottingham, Newcastle-upon-Tyne, York and Milton Keynes.

I witnessed a stellar and - dare I say - pretty flawless production that completely and utterly immersed me into Alison Bechdel's world.
