Seattle has been honored with a number of new works from Seattle based author and ACT Core Company member Yussef El Guindi. Each one examining cultural differences that face immigrants especially Arab-Americans and Muslim Americans. And while his current World Premiere at ACT, “Hotter Than Egypt”, certainly deals with those cultural divides, it also wonderfully shows the cultural similarities between the races and does it with tons of humor.

It’s 2022 and ACT - A Contemporary Theatre is thrilled to officially announce casting for the first production of its return season, Hotter Than Egypt, written by acclaimed local playwright, Yussef El Guindi (Threesome and People of the Book).

Think you know the Middle East? Think again. ReOrient 2017 presents seven short plays as one unforgettable evening of theatre. Nowhere else will you find plays and artists from Armenia, India, Iraq, Iran, Japan, Lebanon, Palestine, Syria, Tunisia, Turkey, United Kingdom, and the U.S. all on one stage. Golden Thread Productions, the first American theatre company to focus on the Middle East, continues its 20th Anniversary Season with the West Coast premiere of Yussef El Guindi's humorous and hard-hitting Our Enemies: Lively Scenes of Love and Combat, directed by Founding Artistic Director Torange Yeghiazarian. In this juicy denunciation of the mainstream media machine, struggling writer Gamal hates the way his fellow Arab-Americans represent their culture on American media. It's easy enough to take out his frustration on literature superstar Mohsen and local mosque leader, Sheikh Alfani. But when his own girlfriend and novelist Noor gets an offer from a major publisher backed with a national media campaign, how will Gamal manage his frustration? Our Enemies runs October 28-November 20, 2016 at the Thick House (1695 18th Street, San Francisco) and performs Thursdays-Saturdays at 8pm, and Sundays at 3pm. Pear Theatre opens its 2016/2017 season with two two-person shows running in repertory, each presenting a different perspective on modern conflict, identity, grief, and human nature. THE GUYS by Anne Nelson, directed by Christian Haines, previews on August 24; with Press and Opening Night on Friday, August 26, followed by a champagne gala. VEILS by Tom Coash, directed by Vickie Rozell, previews on August 25; with Press and Opening Night on Saturday, August 27, followed by a champagne gala. The two shows run concurrently through September 18. All performances are held at the Pear Theatre, 1110 La Avenida St., Mountain View.
