In Iggy Pop Life Class, Turner Prize-winning artist Jeremy Deller uses the traditional life-model drawing class to stage a performative event with Iggy Pop as model and subject. The resulting drawings, created by twenty-two participating artists, will be shown at the Brooklyn Museum from November 4, 2016, to March 26, 2017. Along with works depicting the male body selected from the Museum's historical collections, the exhibition examines shifting cultural representations of masculinity across history.  

This weekend I visited a little gem filled with history, tucked away within a short drive from Charlotte, the Meroney Theater in Salisbury, NC. The original home to vaudeville and now home to The Piedmont Players. This group put on a sublimely wonderful production of CABARET. The cast was lead by Emily Ramirez, who played the promiscuously innocent, Sally Bowles. I couldn't take my eyes off Ramirez. She captured the character of Bowles' sexual persona onstage with charged dancing and emotionally connected vocals.

The Patricia & Phillip Frost Art Museum FIU announces a new partnership with Alienware and Killer Networking as Presenting Sponsors for The Art of Video Games exhibition in Miami (on view Jan. 23 - April 17). This will be the public's final opportunity to experience the exhibition, with Miami serving as the final leg of its national tour which originated at the Smithsonian American Art Museum in Washington, D.C.

Theatre Charlotte's revival of LA CAGE AUX FOLLES allows us to catch up with its true meaning as director Dennis Delamar sets his star, Steve Bryan, free to add uproarious blandishments of shtick and impersonation.

The Old Globe's new production of THE ROCKY HORROR SHOW opened Sept. 23 in San Diego, CA. The production, scheduled to run through Nov. 6, is directed by James Vasquez, with choreography by JT Horenstein and music direction by Mike Wilkins.
