TimeLine Theatre Company has announced that four new playwrights have joined its Playwrights Collective, the company's new play incubator.

TimeLine Theatre Company announces its inaugural "FIRST DRAFT: A TimeLine Playwrights Collective Festival,' the culmination of the company's latest two-year new-play incubator program offering residency to Chicago-based emerging and established writers. FIRST DRAFT will take place December 1 - 3, 2018, at TimeLine's home at 615 W. Wellington Avenue in Chicago, with free public readings of new plays by current Playwrights Collective members Tyla Abercrumbie, Will Allan, Maureen Gallagher, and Calamity West.

Madison Lyric Stage announced that the first production of its 2017 season is Noel Coward's madcap comedy Blithe Spirit.  Performances will be held April 21, 22, 28 and 29 at 7:30 pm, with a special matinee performance on April 30 at 5:30 pm, at the Shoreline Unitarian Universalist Society located at 297 Boston Post Road in Madison, CT.

The Goodman commissioned world premiere of CARLYLE by Thomas Bradshaw, directed by Benjamin Kamine, features an all-Chicago cast with James Earl Jones II in the titular role, joined by Patrick Clear (Janice's Father), Maureen Gallagher (Janice's Mother), Tim Rhoze (CARLYLE's Father), Levenix Riddle (Omar/Tyrone), Tiffany Scott (Janice/Sarah), Charlette Speigner (Anita Hill/Shaniqua) and Nate Whelden (Mark).

Orchestra of St. Luke's to Open 40th Season with Three Octets, Beg. 10/19


To celebrate its 40th anniversary this season, Orchestra of St. Luke's (OSL) turned to works that have been favorites among its musicians and audiences as the starting point for its Chamber Music Series programs. For the season-opening concerts in late October at The Morgan Library & Museum and Brooklyn Museum, the genesis of the program was the Schubert Octet, a work beloved and frequently performed by St. Luke's Chamber Ensemble throughout its history.

Non-Equity Jeff Awards are Announced


The Jeff Awards Committee today announced 128 nominations in 24 categories of Non-Equity Jeff Awards for productions that opened between April 1, 2013, and March 31, 2014. The Non-Equity Awards honor excellence in Chicago theatres not under a union contract. Jeff judges attended opening nights of 147 productions offered by 65 Non-Equity producing organizations. The judges recommended 66 of those shows, making them eligible for Non-Equity Jeff Award nominations. Thirty theatre companies received nominations.

In a series of three concerts at The Morgan Library & Museum and Brooklyn Museum, St. Luke's Chamber Ensemble gives the New York / East Coast premiere of Pulitzer Prize-winning composer John Harbison's newest work,Crossroads, a setting of poems from Louise Gluck's 2009 book, A Village Life. Orchestra of St. Luke's was a co-commissioner of Crossroads, which had its world premiere at La Jolla Music Festival in August 2013. John Harbison will give a pre-concert talk with mezzo-soprano Abigail Fischer, violinist Krista Bennion Feeney, and cellist Daire Fitzgeraldon tonight, October 30 at 7:00 PM at The Morgan Library & Museum.

Chicago Shakespeare Theater (CST) presents Short Shakespeare! Romeo and Juliet, a 75-minute abridged production of Shakespeare's tragedy of true love found-and tragically lost, adapted and staged by Jeff Award-winning director and Chicagoan of the Year in Theater Rachel Rockwell. Providing a quality, family-friendly introduction to Shakespeare on Saturday mornings from February 23 to March 23, 2013, the cast of Rockwell's production includes Chicago actors Christopher Allen and Laura Rook, who make their CST debuts in the title roles.
