Colt Coeur Announces 2020-2021 Resident Playwrights and Directors


Colt Coeur is welcoming 3 additional artists (playwrights Bleu Beckford Burrell, Adrienne Dawes, and Noelle Viñas) to its Residency Program, with 4 of last year's Residents (directors Tara Elliott, J. Mehr Kaur, and Portia Krieger, and playwright Emma Goidel) opting to extend their Residency through 2021 (due to the unique impact of the Covid-19 pandemic).

LAB RESULTS: The Antaeus Playwrights Lab Festival a?" Six new plays by award-winning, mid-career writers get developmental readings over the course of two weekends as part of Antaeus Theatre Company's second annual LAB RESULTS series. Each of the plays was developed in the Antaeus Playwrights Lab, an ongoing program that incubates new works that provide compelling roles for actors and creates a nurturing and supportive artistic community.  Last fall, two plays from the 2018 LAB RESULTS festival, The Abuelas by Stephanie Alison Walker and Eight Nights by Jennifer Maisel, were given critically acclaimed full productions as part of Antaeus' 2019-20 season.

The world premiere of HATEF**K, the 2017 Kilroys List play by Rehana Lew Mirza, opens tomorrow, Wednesday, March 13, at WP Theater (2162 Broadway) in partnership with Colt Coeur. Directed by Adrienne Campbell-Holt (WP's What We're Up Against), this bracingly insightful play stars Kavi Ladnier ("Just Add Magic", "Heroes") and Sendhil Ramamurthy ("Heroes", "Covert Affairs"). FREE OUTGOING centers on a single mother and her two teenagers living in a very conservative Chennai, India. Strong performances from the talented cast of five vividly illustrate the consequences of a video of the 15-year-old daughter engaged in a sex act going viral.

East West Players (EWP), the nation's longest-running professional theatre of color in the country and the largest producing organization of Asian American artistic work, is pleased to announce the cast and creative team for the US premiere of Free Outgoing, which Time Out, London has praised as "…a gripping and insightful story", and The Independent has called "…profoundly affecting." Written by Anupama Chandrasekhar and directed by Snehal Desai in his directorial debut as EWP Artistic Director, Free Outgoing begins performances on February 9 and runs until March 12, 2017, with opening night on February 15.
