Jonny Wexler BIO

Born in London, Ontario, Canada, Jonny first found his passion for the arts when his parents enrolled him in piano and singing lessons at the age of six. One year later he took part in his first play, Oliver! From seven to eighteen he performed in dozens of productions that ranged from Simon to Sondheim, including three consecutive High School Projects at the Grand Theatre, shows at Original Kids Theatre Company, plenty of summer stock and local community theatre, a season at the Stratford Festival of Canada, and ten years as a member of the Amabile Boys Choir. During this time he also began formal dance training and would eventually start breakdancing and become a member of the infamous Albino Zebras crew.

As he graduated high school, he received acceptance to the Goodman School of Acting at DePaul University, however that plan was quickly replaced when he booked the hit kids TV show, "The Doodlebops". Working with legendary children's television producer Michael Hirsch, the Emmy award-winning choreographer David Connolly, the Gemini award-winning music producer Carl Lenox, and director Jamie Waese, he would go on to film 65 live episodes and 52 episodes of the cartoon spinoff, The Doodlebops Rockin' Road Show. Both shows aired on Kids CBC, Playhouse Disney, and CBS and can now be easily found streaming online.

On top of all of the filming, the Doodlebops also hit the road, performing over 600+ shows across North America, including sixteen sold-out shows for over 30,000 people at Walt Disney World, three sold-out days at Madison Square Garden, an appearance on the Today Show's Concert Series, and the filming of Walt Disney World's Christmas Day Parade, broadcast on ABC to millions of homes across North America.
In 2008, Jonny received his Green Card and decided to relocate to Los Angeles. While he did travel back to Canada to star in the Canadian premiere of Disney's "High School Musical" in Halifax, Nova Scotia, he spent the better part of the next five years in LA acting in more than a dozen short film.
In September of 2012, Jonny found himself with the opportunity to take part in the creation of Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots at the La Jolla Playhouse. The musical was based on the Flaming Lips concept album of the same name and was directed by Des McAnuff (The Who's Tommy, Jersey Boys).
Immediately following that, Jonny was asked to stay and take part in a workshop of a new musical, Chasing the Song, from the team that created Memphis, Joe Dipietro (Nice Work If You Can Get It), David Bryan (Bon Jovi), Christopher Ashley (Xanadu, Come From Away) and Sergio Trijillo (Jersey Boys, Memphis, On Your Feet). He would return to La Jolla again to reprise his role in a full scale production in April of 2014.
While in La Jolla it was suggested to him that he might be a good fit for a role in Jersey Boys and sure enough in July it happened. From July of 2014 until the July of 2017, Jonny had the incredible opportunity of touring the US, Canada, and even Japan as Joe Pesci in Jersey Boys. It was an absolutely life changing experience that impacted him both professional and personally in profound ways. He also became a US citizen during this time, traveling the world, exploring life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.

BWW REVIEW: “Oh, What a Night!” with JERSEY BOYS!

JERSEY BOYS follows the true story of 1960s group The Four Seasons; Tommy DeVito (Corey Greenan), Bob Gaudio (Eric Chambliss), Nick Massie (Johnathan Cable), and Frankie Valli (Jonny Wexler). This jukebox musical, with music by Bob Gaudio and lyrics by Bob Crewe, utilizes some of the bands biggest hits to tell the rise and fall of the iconic group of boys from New Jersey; including "Big Girls Don't Cry," "Sherry," "December 1963 (Oh, What a Night)," and "Can't Take My Eyes Off You."

BWW Review: JERSEY BOYS at the Providence Performing Arts Center

As an older Millennial, songs by Frankie Valli & The Four Seasons have always been part of the landscape during my lifetime, on the radio, in stores, etc. But who were the men behind the music? Enter JERSEY BOYS, subtitled 'The Story of Frankie Valli & the Four Seasons' which is exactly that, portraying the rise, success, and eventual decline of the popular 1960s group.

BWW Interview: Johnny Wexler on being Frankie Valli in JERSEY BOYS' US Tour

JERSEY BOYS has been a Broadway favorite since the jukebox musical premiered in 2005. It can still be seen Off-Broadway at New World Stages, but in case you're not traveling to Manhattan any time soon, you can catch the show as it travels across America to a city near you. The story of the Four Seasons wouldn't be complete without the character of the incomparable Frankie Valli, whose perfect falsettos gave the group its iconic sound. I caught up with Jonny Wexler in Atlanta, who's been playing Frankie on tour for his second season. He's been with the production for 5 years total, having played Joe Pesci for 3 seasons. Here's what he had to say:

BWW Review: JERSEY BOYS: THE STORY OF FRANKIE VALLI & THE FOUR SEASONS, Oh, What a Night! at Theatre League, Broadway in Wichita

On a cold, snowy night in Wichita, Jersey Boys played to a packed house at Century II on Tuesday February 19, 2019. The jukebox musical tells the biographical story of Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons, one of the most best-selling groups of all time. Presented through NetWorks Presentations, the cast was spearheaded by Jonathan Cable, Eric Chambliss, Corey Greenan and Jonny Wexler as the fabulous core of that famous quartet.

Harris Center Welcomes National Tour Of JERSEY BOYS

Legend has it that when Frankie Valli, as lead singer, decided to enter into a business partnership with the keyboardist and songwriter Bob Gaudio, the musician asked Frankie "should we have somebody draw up a contract?" Frankie responds by offering his hand. "You want a contract? Here - a Jersey contract." Their handshake became a pact, cementing a relationship that has endured for close to 50 years.

BWW Review: JERSEY BOYS Brings Special Engagement to Broadway Grand Rapids With Well Known Hits!

Jersey Boys is a musical biography of The Four Seasons that showcases their most iconic hits and reveals the story behind the music that entertained audiences for a limited engagement in Grand Rapids this past weekend. It includes many of their well-known musical hits that will have you singing along including: "Big Girls Don't Cry," "Sherry," "December 1963 (Oh What A Night)," "Stay," "Can't Take My Eyes Off You," "Beggin," and many more.Far from a show filled with only the group's musical hits and other numbers, Jersey Boys gets to the heart of the relationships at the center of the group. It does have special focus on front man, Frankie Valli, the small kid with the big falsetto. In the show each member of the group takes a turn narrating events, illustrating how a rough and diverse group of guys from New Jersey, and their long friendships, became music history.

BWW Review: JERSEY BOYS National Tour at North Carolina Theatre

Jersey Boys is presented in a documentary-style format that dramatizes the formation, success and eventual breakup of The Four Seasons. When I last met up with these boys, it was during their return engagement at DPAC back in 2015. Since then, the Broadway production celebrated its 10th anniversary, closed up shop, and is now running Off-Broadway at New World Stages.

BWW Review: The JERSEY BOYS Are Back at Dr. Phillips Center and Holding Their Own

As of last fall, JERSEY BOYS has been seen on the stage by more than 25 million people around the world. So, is it really that good? Tough question. My first instinct is to say JERSEY BOYS ain't all that. It's a backstage, jukebox, rise-and-fall musical, a combination that ought to be the broadest, most formulaic thing you've ever seen. Yet, it surprises...

Jersey Boys is a unbelievable show with incredible singing, lots of humor and heart. See it where ever you get the chance.
