JERSEY BOYS follows the true story of 1960s group The Four Seasons; Tommy DeVito (Corey Greenan), Bob Gaudio (Eric Chambliss), Nick Massie (Johnathan Cable), and Frankie Valli (Jonny Wexler). This jukebox musical, with music by Bob Gaudio and lyrics by Bob Crewe, utilizes some of the bands biggest hits to tell the rise and fall of the iconic group of boys from New Jersey; including "Big Girls Don't Cry," "Sherry," "December 1963 (Oh, What a Night)," and "Can't Take My Eyes Off You."

As an older Millennial, songs by Frankie Valli & The Four Seasons have always been part of the landscape during my lifetime, on the radio, in stores, etc. But who were the men behind the music? Enter JERSEY BOYS, subtitled 'The Story of Frankie Valli & the Four Seasons' which is exactly that, portraying the rise, success, and eventual decline of the popular 1960s group.

JERSEY BOYS has been a Broadway favorite since the jukebox musical premiered in 2005. It can still be seen Off-Broadway at New World Stages, but in case you're not traveling to Manhattan any time soon, you can catch the show as it travels across America to a city near you. The story of the Four Seasons wouldn't be complete without the character of the incomparable Frankie Valli, whose perfect falsettos gave the group its iconic sound. I caught up with Jonny Wexler in Atlanta, who's been playing Frankie on tour for his second season. He's been with the production for 5 years total, having played Joe Pesci for 3 seasons. Here's what he had to say:

On a cold, snowy night in Wichita, Jersey Boys played to a packed house at Century II on Tuesday February 19, 2019. The jukebox musical tells the biographical story of Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons, one of the most best-selling groups of all time. Presented through NetWorks Presentations, the cast was spearheaded by Jonathan Cable, Eric Chambliss, Corey Greenan and Jonny Wexler as the fabulous core of that famous quartet.

Legend has it that when Frankie Valli, as lead singer, decided to enter into a business partnership with the keyboardist and songwriter Bob Gaudio, the musician asked Frankie "should we have somebody draw up a contract?" Frankie responds by offering his hand. "You want a contract? Here - a Jersey contract." Their handshake became a pact, cementing a relationship that has endured for close to 50 years.

Jersey Boys is a musical biography of The Four Seasons that showcases their most iconic hits and reveals the story behind the music that entertained audiences for a limited engagement in Grand Rapids this past weekend. It includes many of their well-known musical hits that will have you singing along including: "Big Girls Don't Cry," "Sherry," "December 1963 (Oh What A Night)," "Stay," "Can't Take My Eyes Off You," "Beggin," and many more.Far from a show filled with only the group's musical hits and other numbers, Jersey Boys gets to the heart of the relationships at the center of the group. It does have special focus on front man, Frankie Valli, the small kid with the big falsetto. In the show each member of the group takes a turn narrating events, illustrating how a rough and diverse group of guys from New Jersey, and their long friendships, became music history.

Jersey Boys is presented in a documentary-style format that dramatizes the formation, success and eventual breakup of The Four Seasons. When I last met up with these boys, it was during their return engagement at DPAC back in 2015. Since then, the Broadway production celebrated its 10th anniversary, closed up shop, and is now running Off-Broadway at New World Stages.

As of last fall, JERSEY BOYS has been seen on the stage by more than 25 million people around the world. So, is it really that good? Tough question. My first instinct is to say JERSEY BOYS ain't all that. It's a backstage, jukebox, rise-and-fall musical, a combination that ought to be the broadest, most formulaic thing you've ever seen. Yet, it surprises...

Jersey Boys is a unbelievable show with incredible singing, lots of humor and heart. See it where ever you get the chance.
