The award-winning York Theatre Company (James Morgan, Producing Artistic Director) hosted its 19th Oscar Hammerstein Award for Lifetime Achievement in Musical Theatre on Monday, November 22, 2010, honoring Tony Award-winning librettist Thomas Meehan (Annie, The Producers, Hairspray, Elf). The evening was directed by Tony-winning director/lyricist/librettist Richard Maltby and the award was presented by Alice Hammerstein Mathias, daughter of Oscar Hammerstein II.

The Public Theater's Artistic Director Oskar Eustis and Executive Director Andrew D. Hamingson announced today that the 2009-2010 Season will feature premieres by Peter Sellars, Richard Foreman, Tarell Alvin McCraney, Mike Daisey, and Suzan-Lori Parks and include performances by John Ortiz, Philip Seymour Hoffman, and Willem Dafoe.

The Public Theater (Artistic Director Oskar Eustis; Executive Director Andrew D. Hamingson) announced complete casting today for Christopher Durang's WHY TORTURE IS WRONG, AND THE PEOPLE WHO LOVE THEM. Laura Benanti, Audrie Neenan, and Richard Poe will join the previously announced Amir Arison, David Aaron Baker, Kristine Nielsen, and John Pankow in this world premiere comedy, directed by Nicholas Martin. WHY TORTURE IS WRONG, AND THE PEOPLE WHO LOVE THEM begins previews on March 24 and runs through April 26 with an official press opening on Monday, April 6 at 7 PM.

Hamingson) announced that TAKING OVER, the first new solo play by OBIE Award winner Danny Hoch in 10 years, has been extended through Sunday, December 21 due to popular demand. Directed by Tony Taccone, TAKING OVER opened on Sunday, November 23 and was originally scheduled to close on Sunday, December 14.

Hamingson) welcomes Tony Award-winning actor and singer Mandy Patinkin back to The Public for a two-week concert series in the Anspacher Theater in honor of the 20th Anniversary of his first concert at The Public. For the first time, Patinkin will present three of his most popular concerts, Mamaloshen, Celebrating Sondheim, and Dress Casual, in repertory with Paul Ford on piano, December 8 through December 21. All profits from Patinkin's concerts go to The Public Theater just as they did 20 years ago when he first performed here. On June 25th, 2008 SPF held its launch party in celebration of its fifth season. This year the Summer Play Festival will be held at The Public Theater on Lafayette Street in New York City. The festival will run from July 1st - July 27th.
