American Classical Orchestra Closes 18-19 Season With EROICA At Lincoln Center

American Classical Orchestra (ACO) concludes its season at Alice Tully Hall at Lincoln Center on Friday, May 17, 2019 at 8:00pm with Eroica, led by Music Director and ACO founder Thomas Crawford. The performance features Beethoven's monumental Symphony No. 3, “Eroica,” preceded by his Coriolan Overture, Op. 62. The evening begins at 8pm with ACO's unique concert preview, including musical and historical context from Maestro Crawford, illustrated by the full orchestra playing excerpts from the works on the program.

American Classical Orchestra (ACO) today announces its programming for the 2018-19 season, the orchestra's 34th year of presenting historically accurate, engaging, and educational concerts led by Artistic Director and Founder Thomas Crawford. ACO performs four concerts presented in Alice Tully Hall at Lincoln Center and two salon concerts in a private venue. ACO is joined this season by an illustrious group of acclaimed period-performance soloists including violinists Krista Bennion Feeney and Aisslinn Nosky, pianist Christian De Luca, and flutist Sandra Miller.

On Saturday, March 24, 2018 at 8pm, American Classical Orchestra, "the nation's premier orchestra dedicated to period instrument performance" (Vulture), closes out its 2017-2018 season with the return of celebrated contralto Avery Amereau in a program of bright light and visible darkness at Alice Tully Hall at Lincoln Center. Amereau takes center stage with ACO Men's Chorus in a performance of Brahms' Alto Rhapsody, paired with Schubert's iconic Symphony No. 8 "Unfinished" and Gesang der Geister for male chorus and low strings. The program ends with a contrasting symphony by little-known composer Ferdinand Ries, a student of Beethoven in Bonn.

The closing concert of the season on Thursday, May 11, at 8:00PM at Alice Tully Hall will be featuring two of Rossini's famous overtures, The Barber of Seville and William Tell; Clementi's Symphony No. 4; Paganini's 'La Campanella' from Concerto No. 2and Nardini's Violin Concerto in e minor with violinist Krista Bennion Feeney. Italian music of the Classical Era continued a long tradition of virtuosity in stringed instruments. By the beginning of the 19th century, Italian violins, violinist-composers and the violin repertoire had advanced to levels of flamboyance unrivaled anywhere else in Europe. Muzio Clementi's rarely heard symphony features virtuoso string passages unlike those of his contemporaries. Rossini's ebullient overtures complement the sentimental NardiniViolin Concerto in e minor and the fiery Paganini La Campanella. This concert will be conducted by Thomas Crawford.
