Emmett Murphy BIO
DIRECTOR, DESIGNER, & PRODUCER Emmett Murphy is a New York-based creative artist who has a love for synthesizing theatrical experiences that integrate storytelling, multimedia, and live performance. He has a fascination with the nexus where digital media and live performance collide. He has produced projects and special events throughout Europe, Asia, and North America. As a designer, Mr. Murphy has been fortunate to work in multiple disciplines, including video, motion graphics, multimedia, and projection design.
RECENT PROJECTS include directing and designing multimedia for The Three Divas at the New Generation Festival in Florence, Italy in August 2020, and directing and designing multimedia for Modern Warrior, which debuted in New York City in 2018 and was subsequently presented at performing arts centers across the U.S. through 2019. Emmett is the director, dramaturg, and co-librettist for the new opera, Lycidas, composed by Robert Balaguer.
Mr. Murphy worked for Cirque du Soleil® in conjunction with The Beatles LOVE at Mirage Las Vegas and directed Sin City Comedy at Planet Hollywood in Las Vegas. Emmett created and directed 18 original productions for numerous companies, including Princess Cruise Lines, Norwegian Cruise Lines, Carnival Cruise Lines, Oceania Cruise Lines, and Regent Seven Seas Cruises. He was the creative producer for the spectacular production of Illusions at Joyland Theme Park in Shanghai, China.
Mr. Murphy has a performance background in music, theater, and dance. He harnesses this experience to drive the narratives of his work. He is known for his innovative creative development process which results in truly unique theatrical works that captivate audiences.
Mr. Murphy is the Artistic Director of showHive, a creative collaborative that develops large-scale entertainment projects and original theatrical productions. He is a 2017 alumnus of Directors Lab West and has studied directing and dramaturgy at Primary Stages Einhorn School of Performing Arts (ESPA.) Emmett is a member of the Stage Directors and Choreographers Society, Actors Equity Association, American Guild of Variety Artists, Association of Performing Arts Professionals, and is an avid collector of modern and contemporary art.
A native of Montana, he divides his time between New York and Los Angeles.
