Finding it hard to get off the couch and get to the theater? Open Fist has brought the couches to Atwater Village Theatre, creating a cozy, speakeasy setting where patrons can arrive early or stay late to have a drink and a chat with the cast and fellow audience members.

The Gary Plays - Extended through June 10: Fans of seminal playwright and Padua Hills Playwrights Festival founder Murray Mednick are in for a treat: Open Fist Theatre Company presents Mednick's entire "The Gary Plays" series in one epic production. Originated by Padua Playwrights and developed in workshops over a two-year period by Open Fist, "The Gary Plays" chronicles the odyssey of unemployed actor Gary Bean in the years following the random murder of his son. An everyman/anti-hero, Gary has been hailed by KCRW as "a sort of L.A. Leopold Bloom." Audiences can choose to follow his journey over the course of three evenings - or view all six plays on a single Sunday.

BWW Review: AMERICAN WEE-PIE Proves A Second Chance Can Happen When You Least Expect It

Most people who change career paths make that choice due to being let go from a job or being offered a new challenge that seems to be something more rewarding. But what about those who walk away from a successful career, from a job with a great salary and excellent benefits, to go back to a more simple life that offers a more fulfilling way to express your creativity when a second chance comes along? Wouldn't it be wonderful to be that lucky?

BWW Reviews: KIN Has West Coast Premiere At Theatre 40

We all pursue someone to love out of our fear of being alone in facing life and death, as once you fall in love, you're not alone any more. And in the pursuit of love, you may just find additional comfort in the company of your kin, whoever and wherever they may be when things go wrong as well as right. After all, a good shoulder to cry on or arms to hug you go a long way when heartbreak takes over your life.

BWW Reviews: REMEMBRANCE Celebrates Love in the Golden Years at Theatre 40

It is always said that a parent should never have to deal with the death of their child. In 1988 in Belfast, Northern Ireland, both Catholic and Protestant parents were dealing with the death of their children on a daily basis for no other reason than their religion, political affiliation, or just being in the wrong place at the wrong time. Such is the setting in "Remembrance" by Graham Reid, directed by Tim Byron Owen and produced by David Hunt Stafford, presented by Theatre 40.
