Ojai Film Festival Names Local Filmmaking Award for Bill Paxton


The Ojai Film Festival honors the late Bill Paxton with a new award named after him for best locally produced film. An accomplished actor/director and Ojai local, Paxton appeared in many films including The Terminator and Apollo 13. Paxton's son James will present the award, dubbed the Bill Paxton Award for Best Gold Coast Film, at the Awards Brunch on Sunday, November 3 in the Ojai Art Center courtyard. James Paxton, born and raised in Ojai, also works as an actor and producer.

Ojai Film Festival Announces Opening Night Carnivale


On October 31st Ojai Film Festival's 20th Anniversary kicks off with a free movie in Libbey Bowl plus a Live Pre-Show Halloween Faire for all ages. The festivities feature music, dance, poetry, costume contest, prizes and more. Admission is free! The fun starts at 4 pm in Libbey Park and runs through 6 pm, then moves to Libbey Bowl at 6:30 pm for the free movie.

Ojai Film Festival Celebrates 20th Anniversary


The Ojai Film Festival celebrates twenty years of bringing film to Ojai. This year the festival pays tribute to vintage Hollywood with Lifetime Achievement Awards honoring actors Pat Boone and Eva Marie Saint. Continuing a longstanding tradition, this annual festival spotlights ecology with FOCUS EARTH - a full day dedicated to environmental films and eco-shorts. The film Living In The Future's Past, a beautifully photographed environmental documentary, directed by Susan Kucera and narrated/produced by Jeff Bridges, headlines this event. A reception and Q&A with the director follows the film screening on November 10, at 4 pm.

Twenty-nine years after it premiered, playwright Jerry Mayer's "funny, touching and true-to-heart" (Variety) hit comedy ALMOST PERFECT returns to Santa Monica Playhouse as part of the Playhouse's three-year Jerry Mayer-a-thon, reuniting Mayer with director Chris DeCarlo who directed the successful 20th anniversary production of Mayer's acclaimed comedy Aspirin & ELEPHANTS (Critics' Pick, LA TIMES). Debra Ehrhardt and Soho Playhouse present LAST OF THE KNOTTS, the semi-autobiographical play written and performed by Doug Knott, directed by Chris DeCarlo - with performances beginning Friday, April 25 prior to an official press opening of Saturday, May 3 at Soho Playhouse (15 Vandam Street) in Manhattan.

Soho Playhouse (15 Vandam Street), under the direction of Producing Artistic Director Darren Lee Cole, will add several new shows to its current stellar season, including: Simon Lovell's DON'T PRESS CHARGES with performances beginning Saturday, March 15th (presented Saturdays at 5pm); the previously announced EXTRAORDINARY EXTREMITIES with performances beginning Friday, April 4th; Doug Knott's LAST OF THE KNOTTS with performances beginning Friday, April 25th (presented Fridays at 7pm); and Debra Ehrhardt's JAMAICA FAREWELL with performances beginning Sunday, April 27th (presented Sundays at 6:30pm). The aforementioned productions will join BILL W. AND DR. BOB, which recently announced an extension through June 1st , and Matt Graham's current trio of shows - THIS TOO SHALL SUCK, ANAGRAMAZON and STAND UP AGAINST EVERYTHING! - presented in rotating order Wednesdays at 8pm.
