The World Premiere of Jerry Mayer's HOW TO LOVE A REPUBLICAN - a Political Romantic Comedy

By:

The World Premiere of Jerry Mayer's "How to Love a Republican" - a Political Romantic Comedy" Opens Saturday, October 1st at Santa Monica Playhouse.

The timing couldn't be better, with the current political state of the country, for the world premiere of Jerry Mayer's political romantic comedy How To Love a Republican, October 1st from the acclaimed team that brought you the Critics' Pick hit comedies Aspirin & ELEPHANTS, 2 Across and Almost Perfect, Veteran Playwright Mayer and Acclaimed Director Chris DeCarlo,

Margie's parents are the real deal. Long married, wildly in love. Only one catch: he's a Christian, she's a Jew, he's a way-right Republican, and she's a way-left Democrat. Mom and Dad play match-maker to hilarious results, introducing Margie to the perfect men, one a Democrat and one a Republican, both running for Congress - against each other! Can Margie's research give her the answer to the burning question: Who gets her vote, in and out of the bedroom? Can her research give us the answer to our burning question: is America's frustrating political stalemate solvable?

"How to Love a Republican" features stage and screen personalities Elizabeth Ellson (NOHOMO Hollywood & New York Fringe, Kirk Douglas Theatre), Rachel Galper (Lisa Phillips Visca's Turning Thirty, Author! Author! an evening with Sholom Aleichem), Dan Gilvezan (Almost Perfect; Desperate Housewives, Transformers series), Adam Mondschein (The Last Ship, Arrested Development, Castle), Matthew Wrather (Travesties with Sam Waterston; The Raft with Ed Asner).

Playwright Jerry Mayer has had an impressive career in television, writing and producing such prized shows as M*A*S*H, The Bob Newhart Show, All in the Family, The Mary Tyler Moore Show, The Facts of Life and five Mitzi Gaynor's TV Specials, plus her famous Las Vegas Act. Mayer has happily discovered that by far his first love is writing for the theatre. All eight of his plays can be found in the Samuel French catalogue and have appeared successfully in New York City three times (Off Broadway) and in hundreds of theatres all over the US and Canada, as well as in Europe. Most of Mayer's plays deal with the "ups, downs and sideways" of male/female relationships, for which he humbly thanks the guidance of his lovely muse/wife (for lots of years), Emily.

Director Chris DeCarlo has been acting, writing and directing for more than 40 years, bringing to the stage over 250 World and American Premieres, including Stephen King and Robert B. Parker's RAGE, Annie Reiner's Mirage à Trois, Brenda Krantz's Lovely! starring Louise Sorrell, the Ovation-nominated Picon Pie, Todd Susman's Locked and Loaded. Among his LA TIMES Critics' Pick productions are Doug Knott's Last of the Knotts, Jerry Mayer's Aspirin & ELEPHANTS, the Sroka/Fleming comedy Dying for Laughs starring Stuart Pankin, and Charlie Lustman's pop operetta Made Me Nuclear. Recent credits: Audition - the Musical, Moliere's The Fools, and Lisa Phillips Visca's Climax starring Rae Dawn Chong.
