Cristina Frias is an actress working in T.V., Film and Theatre. She recently appeared in Norman Lear's remake of "One Day at a Time" (Netflix) starring Rita Moreno and Justina Machado. Cristina played the lead, "Estela Garcia" in the revival of REAL WOMEN HAVE CURVES by Josefina Lopez at the Pasadena Playhouse. She has also worked on two plays by multi-award winning playwright Stephen Adley Guirgis: "Church Lady" in the Pulitzer Prize-winning play BETWEEN RIVERSIDE AND CRAZY at Studio Theatre D.C. and Victoria in THE MOTHERFUCKER WITH A HAT at the South Coast Repertory. Cristina got her Equity card at the Mark Taper Forum originating the role of "Dolores" in Luis Alfaro's BLACK BUTTERFLY which also toured to the Kenndy Center and Smithsonian. Cristina has performed all over the United States, Latin America, Europe and East Africa. She trained at CalArts (MFA) and holds a degree in Sociology from U.C. Berkeley.

REAL WOMEN HAVE CURVES is now in its final performances at The Pasadena Playhouse (Artistic Director, Sheldon Epps) and must close Sunday, October 4, 2015. The 25th anniversary production of Josefina Lopez's play directed by Playhouse Associate Artistic Director Seema Sueko was a smash hit with both critics and audiences alike.
The film of Josefina Lopez's Real Women Have Curves in 2002 was a big hit in art houses and won several Sundance prizes including an audience award for Best Actresses Lupe Ontiveros and America Ferrera, long before her Ugly Betty fame. Lopez's semi-autobiographical play from the 90s about the garment industry and the Latina women who struggle to survive in it - the basis for the film - is currently running at the Pasadena Playhouse through October 4 and has terrific direction from Seema Sueko and a closely connected ensemble of five actresses.
The Pasadena Playhouse production of REAL WOMEN HAVE CURVES by Josefina López and directed by Seema Sueko opened in conjunction with the Wells Fargo Theatrical Diversity Project fundraising event. Legendary director, choreographer and producer Kenny Ortega will be the 2015 Diversity Award Artistic Honoree and Abel Ramirez, founder of El Portal Restaurant, will be the 2015 Community Honoree.
