Drama Desk and AUDELCO award-winning off-Broadway company Working Theater has named Laura Carbonell Monarque to serve as Producing Artistic Director in advance of the company's 37th season. Monarque will succeed co-Artistic Directors Tamilla Woodard, recently named Chair of Acting at Yale School of Drama, and Mark Plesent, who led the Company for 27 years until his passing in February.

Mark Plesent, long-time Producing Artistic Director of Working Theater, the only theater in the country dedicated exclusively to telling the stories of working people, passed away on February 19, 2021 after a valiantly fought 4-year battle with cancer. He was 60.

Running August 18-27, False Stars is a Southern Gothic tale merging the real and the supernatural in its exploration of death and scientific legacy. Performed by Felipe Bonilla, Marissa Carpio, Jules Forsberg-Lary, Jonathan Iglesias, and Ashton Muñiz, False Stars continues the inaugural season of Corkscrew Theater Festival, a new summer theater festival that provides early-career artists with a high level of production support.

???????Tickets are now on sale to the inaugural Corkscrew Theater Festival, running August 7 - September 3 at the Paradise Factory (64 East 4th Street, Manhattan). Presented by The Brewing Dept. and Fortress Productions, this new summer theater festival provides early-career artists a high level of production support and features five world premieres and five readings performed in repertory over four weeks. Special attention has been given to theater makers who are developing work through innovative and unusual collaborative models. A majority of the participating artists identify as female.

Decoding the Tablecloth, the critically acclaimed hit of the New York International Fringe Festival, will be presented at The United Solo Festival on Theatre Row (410 West 42nd Street) on Saturday, October 5th at 9 p.m., and Today, November 10th at 2 p.m. Written and performed by Gabriela Kohen, the show was co-conceived and directed by Connie Grappo. Selected as 'Outstanding Solo Show,' and named one of the top picks of the Fringe by New York Magazine, Decoding the Tablecloth played to sold-out houses during its initial run, and was extended by audience demand.
